Bendable trocars having blunt tips and connectors for advancing wound drain catheters through tissue
Patent number: 11457948Abstract: A trocar includes a shaft having a leading section, a trailing section, a reduced diameter midsection located between the leading and trailing sections, and a longitudinal axis extending along the length of the shaft. The leading section of the shaft has a tapered region that terminates at a blunt tip. The trailing section of the shaft has a connector located at the trailing end thereof. The leading and trailing sections of the shaft having a first diameter and the reduced diameter midsection of the shaft has a second diameter that is smaller than the first diameter for enabling the shaft to be bent at the reduced diameter midsection. A flexible wound drain catheter having a first end is secured to the connector at the trailing end of the trailing section of the shaft. The flexible wound drain catheter has an outer diameter that matches the first diameter of the leading and trailing sections of the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2019Date of Patent: October 4, 2022Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.Inventors: Serge Levine, Jianxin Guo, Michael McErlean, Jonathan Addeo Syby -

Patent number: 8371003Abstract: A device for assisting in opening and closing a zipper is provided. The device includes a body having first and second diverging guide channels having mutually oriented guide angles for receiving the respective zipper tracks for sliding, non-interlocking movement of the zipper tracks through the guide channels in advance of the zipper slider for reducing the closure angle of the zipper tracks in advance of the zipper slider to correspond to the guide angle of the guide channels, and a handle carried by the body for permitting manual pulling movement of the body along at least a portion of the length of the zipper and generally positioned in a coextensive orientation in relation to a pull tab of the zipper slider such that an operator can simultaneously grasp the pull tab of the zipper slider and the handle while sliding the zipper slider in the closing direction.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2009Date of Patent: February 12, 2013Assignee: BSN Medical, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey Scott Arney, Serge Levine

Publication number: 20100229351Abstract: A device for assisting in opening and closing a zipper of the type having a central zipper slider for opening and closing the zipper by selectively disconnecting and connecting a pair of opposed interlockable tracks as the zipper slider moves in respective opening and closing directions along the tracks. The device includes a body having first and second diverging guide channels for receiving the respective zipper tracks for sliding movement along the guide channel path length and for progressively interconnecting the interlockable tracks at a predetermined mutually oriented angle of closure, a connector carried by the body for connecting the body to the zipper slider, and a pull for permitting manual pulling movement of the body.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 10, 2009Publication date: September 16, 2010Applicant: BSN MEDICAL, INC.Inventors: Jeffrey Scott Arney, Serge Levine

Patent number: 7467537Abstract: There is provided a testing device for testing the seam of a garment that includes a mechanical abrader frame holding elongate members and a control unit. The mechanically oscillating elongate members are each connected to an actuator located within the frame. A test sample is placed on the elongate members of the mechanical abrader frame. Actuators are attached to the connection rods that extend through openings in the front wall of the frame and attach to each of the elongate members for imparting extending and retracting movement to the elongate member. Each of the actuators has an attachment member affixed to its rear end that permits a support rod to pass therethrough allowing for a degree of rotation about the support rod as the connection rod is extended and retracted. A control unit regulates movement of the elongate members and determines the number of revolutions of the elongate members. A method for testing the seam abrasion of a garment seam is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2005Date of Patent: December 23, 2008Assignee: BSN Medical, Inc.Inventor: Serge Levine
