  • Patent number: 5221044
Abstract: There is disclosed a rail fastening system for wood or concrete ties having provisions for rail gage adjustment and including a pair of shoulders removably secured to a railway tie plate or a shoulder retaining in a concrete tie with provisions for lateral adjustment of the rails by the placing of a series of spacers between the flange base of the rail and the shoulders, with the dimensions of the spacers selected to provide constant deflection of the rail clips, if used, regardless of the adjusted position of the rail.

  • Patent number: 4765251
Abstract: The specification discloses an improved railway car truck providing increased dampening for high volume rail cars by the use of bolster pocket wear plates in combination with five different types of springs in the spring baskets of the railway car trucks. The five different types of springs include either a single outer coil, or inner and outer coaxial coils, with the outer coils being of different lengths to provide multiple effective spring rates action which place the critical frequency of the car trucks at two different speeds, rather than a single speed, and makes the amplitude of resonance occurring at the critical frequency much smaller than would otherwise occur, to prevent the car truck from resonating in such a way as to rock the rail car excessively. These types of spring arrangements also prevent excessive vertical bouncing of railway cars.

  • Patent number: 4657611
Abstract: There is disclosed a cross corrugated fiberboard having at least one layer of corrugations running in a longitudinal direction. A method and apparatus for making such a cross corrugated fiberboard is disclosed which first produces a single-wall corrugated fiberboard having a transversely corrugated fiberboard member glued between upper and lower facings which are offset from each other. The intermediate product is cut into pieces of a length equal to the desired width of the finished product, and these pieces are glued together seriatim with their corrugations in a longintudinal direction by the use of the offset portions of the facings. Additional layers of transversely corrugated single-faced or other type corrugated fiberboard may be built up on the longitudinally corrugated layer to make many continuous cross corrugated fiberboard products.

  • Patent number: 4333403
Abstract: One or more of the springs supporting the bolster of a railway car truck is a two stage spring group comprising an outer coil and an inner coil disposed within and coaxial with the outer spring. A retainer is provided to hold the inner spring in relation to the outer spring. The retainer has helically arranged lugs or a flange in engagement with the outer coil at the lower end, and the retainer also includes a support surface for supporting the lower end of the inner coil.

  • Patent number: 4222696
Abstract: The present invention relates to an adjustable bulkhead for preventing the movement of lading within a lading carrying vehicle, such as a railway car, and more particularly, relates to a mechanical bulkhead having a structural frame member adapted to be mounted in a stationary position, with one or more expandable panels connected to said frame member by clevis linkages which are operated by one or more hydraulic cylinders. By the use of an air-operated hydraulic pump fed by a constant volume air reservoir of a size chosen so that as the bulkhead expands the pressure of the air supplied to the hydraulic pump, and thus, the oil pressure in the hydraulic cylinder, will decrease as the natural mechanical advantage of the clevis type linkage comes into play, a substantially uniform force can be kept on the lading regardless of the amount of the expansion of the bulkhead.
