  • Patent number: 4119495
Abstract: A method for processing activated sludge into useful products comprises hydrolysis of activated sludge at a pH of 0.01 to 6.0 at a temperature of 50.degree. to 150.degree. C with subsequent separation of formed water-soluble protein, carbohydrate and mineral substances and vitamins, and/or alkaline extraction of the initial activated sludge at a pH of 9 to 13 at a temperature of 40.degree. to 90.degree. C with subsequent separation of proteins from the extract. The invention makes it possible to simultaneously obtain useful products and solve the problem of utilization of activated sludge formed in great excess in biological purification of effluents, thereby ensuring intensification of purification of effluents, improvement of the quality of the purified water and decrease in the pollution of the environment.

  • Patent number: 3965130
Abstract: A method for simultaneous preparation of ergosterol and ubiquinone-9 in a single process, characterized in that a biolipid fraction, isolated from a biomass of yeast, for example Candida, is used in the process. This fraction is hydrolyzed with a solution of alkali in alcohol, and unsaponifiable components are then extracted. The extract is evaporated to precipitate ergosterol, while the mother liquor is passed through a chromatographic column to isolate ubiquinone-9. According to the invention, both end products are obtained in a single process.
