Patent number: 8629815Abstract: A binocular head mounted display includes a frame, right and left displays, an alignment sensor, and a control system. The right and left displays display right and left images to a user and are mounted to the frame. The alignment sensor includes a first laser source mounted proximate to one of the right or left displays and a first photo-detector array mounted opposite the first laser source and proximate to an opposite one of the right or left displays. The first alignment sensor is mounted to measure misalignment between the right and left displays due to deformation of the frame about one or more rotational axes and to generate a signal that is indicative of the misalignment. The control system is coupled to the alignment sensor to receive the signal and to calculate the misalignment based at least in part upon the signal.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2011Date of Patent: January 14, 2014Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Sergey Brin, Babak Amirparviz

Patent number: 8589387Abstract: Techniques for extracting information from a database are provided. A database such as the Web is searched for occurrences of tuples of information. The occurrences of the tuples of information that were found in the database are analyzed to identify a pattern in which the tuples of information were stored. Additional tuples of information can then be extracted from the database utilizing the pattern. This process can be repeated with the additional tuples of information, if desired.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2012Date of Patent: November 19, 2013Assignees: Google Inc., The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior UniversityInventor: Sergey Brin

Patent number: 8515752Abstract: A system provides search results from a voice search query. The system receives a voice search query from a user, derives one or more recognition hypotheses, each being associated with a weight, from the voice search query, and constructs a weighted boolean query using the recognition hypotheses. The system then provides the weighted boolean query to a search system and provides the results of the search system to a user.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2008Date of Patent: August 20, 2013Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Alexander Mark Franz, Monika H. Henzinger, Sergey Brin, Brian Christopher Milch

Publication number: 20130188080Abstract: An electronic device includes a band configured to be worn on the head of a user. The band has a central portion and first and second temple portions extending therefrom. The central portion is configured to contact a portion of the face of a user, and the temple portions are configured to contact portions of the head of the user near ears thereof. An operational unit having a display element is affixed to the first temple portion and includes a housing having an arm defining a longitudinal axis. The housing also includes an elbow portion defining a display end that supports the display element such that it extends along a display axis angled with respect to the longitudinal axis and such that the display element is positionable over an eye of the user. Image generating means are disposed within the housing for generating an image presentable on the display element.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 19, 2012Publication date: July 25, 2013Applicant: GOOGLE INC.Inventors: Maj Isabelle Olsson, Mitchell Joseph Heinrich, Sebastian Thrun, Sergey Brin

Publication number: 20130159338Abstract: A system and method for providing a user interface with search query broadening is described. A query defining a search executable on potentially retrievable information is accepted. The query is parsed. A broadened query is provided. At least one of the broadened query and results of a search executed on the broadened query is presented.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2012Publication date: June 20, 2013Applicant: Google Inc.Inventors: Sergey BRIN, Benedict GOMES, Simon TONG

Patent number: 8452758Abstract: Systems and methods that improve search rankings for a search query by using data associated with queries related to the search query are described. In one aspect, a search query is received, a related query related to the search query is determined, an article (such as a web page) associated with the search query is determined, and a ranking score for the article based at least in part on data associated with the related query is determined. Several algorithms and types of data associated with related queries useful in carrying out such systems and methods are described.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2012Date of Patent: May 28, 2013Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Simon Tong, Mark Pearson, Sergey Brin

Patent number: 8380502Abstract: A system receives a voice search query from a user, derives recognition hypotheses from the voice search query, and determines scores associated with the recognition hypotheses, the scores being based on a comparison of the recognition hypotheses to previously received search queries. The system discards at least one of the recognition hypotheses that is associated with a first score that is less than a threshold value, and constructs a first query using at least one non-discarded recognition hypothesis, where the at least one first non-discarded recognition hypothesis is associated with a second score that at least meets the threshold value. The system forwards the first query to a search system, receives first results associated with the first query, and provides the first results to the user.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2011Date of Patent: February 19, 2013Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Alexander Mark Franz, Monika H. Patent number: 8248364Abstract: The disclosure describes methods and systems for gathering and conveying information, for example, such as with a hand of a user. In one embodiment, the method may include using a detector to record a series of images of an environment and detecting a predetermined motion by comparing two or more images in the series. The method may include selecting a function based on the predetermined motion and triggering the function. In another embodiment, the method may include using a first detector to record a first series of images of an environment and using a second detector to record a second series of images of an environment. The method may include detecting a predetermined relative motion by comparing one or more images from the first series with one or more images from the second series, and selecting and/or triggering a function based on the predetermined relative motion.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2011Date of Patent: August 21, 2012Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Liang-Yu Chi, Robert Allen Ryskamp, Luis Ricardo Prada Gomez, Harvey Ho, Sergey Brin

Patent number: 7912915Abstract: A system provides a periodically changing story line and/or a special event company logo to entice users to access a web page. For the story line, the system may receive objects that tell a story according to the story line and successively provide the objects on the web page for predetermined or random amounts of time. For the special event company logo, the system may modify a standard company logo for a special event to create a special event logo, associate one or more search terms with the special event logo, and upload the special event logo to the web page. The system may then receive a user selection of the special event logo and provide search results relating to the special event.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2001Date of Patent: March 22, 2011Assignee: Google Inc.Inventor: Sergey Brin
