  • Patent number: 11889589
Abstract: A communications network may be used to convey Short Message Service (SMS) messages using the Internet Protocol (IP). User equipment may transmit an SMS-over-IP Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message to wireless equipment over a high-bandwidth communications link. The wireless equipment may route the SMS-over-IP SIP message to the ePDG. When the high-bandwidth link is unavailable, the user equipment may transmit a compressed message to the proxy server over a low-bandwidth communications link. The proxy server may convert the compressed message into an SMS-over-IP SIP message that is transmitted to the ePDG. The proxy server may serve as a proxy for the first user equipment from the perspective of the ePDG. This may allow SMS message data to continue to be conveyed through the communications network even when the high-bandwidth communications link becomes unavailable.

  • Patent number: 11553561
Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for performing Wi-Fi authentication in a wireless communication system. Public key cryptography may be used to enhance the confidentiality of the user's permanent identity in transit. In some embodiments, a RSA-OAEP(SHA-256) encryption scheme may be used to protect the permanent identity when the EAP client needs to send the user's permanent identity to the server in the absence of pseudonym or fast re-authentication identity. In some embodiments, a server certificate is used to authenticate a iWLAN tunnel to protect an IMSI during setup of a Wi-Fi call. Using the methods described herein on both or either of the EAP client and server side may offer improved privacy protection.

  • Publication number: 20220295343
Abstract: Systems and methods performed by user equipment (UE) for communicating over a wireless communication network include receiving data representing one or more communication quality metrics for communication on a New Radio (NR) communication link of the wireless communication network. The method includes determining, based on the data representing the one or more communication quality metrics, a data throughput for the NR communication link of the wireless communication network. The method includes estimating a theoretical throughput for using a Long Term Evolution (LTE) communications link of the wireless network. The method includes comparing the data throughput using the NR communication link to the theoretical throughput for using the LTE communication link. The method includes causing a switch, based on the comparison, from the NR communication link to the LTE communication link.

  • Patent number: 11382017
Abstract: A device providing inter-device call continuity facilitated by a wireless audio output device may include a processor configured to initiate, over a peer-to-peer connection with a second device, a communication session between the second device and a third device. The processor may be further configured to establish, over the peer-to-peer connection with the second device, an audio link corresponding to the communication session. The processor may be further configured to determine, based at least in part on the audio link, that a connection quality of the peer-to-peer connection satisfies a connection degradation condition. The processor may be further configured to request, over a wide area network connection, for the communication session with the third device to be handed-off from the second device to the first device, and to establish, over the wide area network connection, the communication session with the third device.

  • Patent number: 10595252
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for performing seamless voice call handover and data handoff between a cellular network and a non-cellular (e.g., Wi-Fi) network, by a link budget limited user equipment device (UE) in standalone mode. The cellular radio may be maintained in a non-communication mode when not in use, to prevent power and peak power issues that may be unique to link budget limited devices. In response to poor non-cellular performance in support of a voice call, the UE may transition the cellular radio from the non-communication state to an online state. If the cellular network indicates that packet-switched calls are supported, then the UE may initiate handover of the voice call to the cellular network. Various methods for seamless handoff of data communications are also disclosed, in both the presence and the absence of a voice call. Various metrics are disclosed to enhance handoff determinations.
