Publication number: 20150104023Abstract: An audio identification system generates a reference audio fingerprint associated with an event. The reference audio fingerprint is generated from samples of an audio signal associated with the event captured by multiple devices. To generate the reference audio fingerprint, fingerprints are generated from each sample, and the generated fingerprints are temporally aligned. Fingerprints associated a temporally overlapping portion of the audio signal are averaged, and the average value is associated with the temporally overlapping portion of the audio signal and included in the reference audio fingerprint. The reference audio fingerprint is stored along with identifying information, such as an event name, an event time, an event date, or other information describing the event associated with the audio signal from which the samples were captured.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 11, 2013Publication date: April 16, 2015Applicant: Facebook, Inc., a Delaware corporationInventor: Sergiy Bilobrov

Patent number: 8934545Abstract: A video fingerprinting algorithm extracts characteristic features from regions of interest in a media object, such as a video signal. The regions of interest contain the perceptually important parts of the video signal. A fingerprint may be extracted from a target media object, and the fingerprint the target media content may then be matched against multiple regions of interest of known reference fingerprints. This matching may allow identification of complex scenes, inserts, and different versions of the same content presented in different formats of the media object.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2010Date of Patent: January 13, 2015Assignee: Yahoo! Inc.Inventor: Sergiy Bilobrov

Publication number: 20140277640Abstract: An audio identification system accounts for an audio signal's complexity when generating a test audio fingerprint for identification of the audio signal. In particular, the audio identification system determines a complexity of an audio signal to be fingerprinted. For example, the audio signal's complexity may be determined by performance of an autocorrelation on the audio signal. Based on the determined complexity, the audio identification system determines a length of a sample of the audio signal used to generate a test audio fingerprint. A sample having the length is then obtained and used to generate a test audio fingerprint for the audio signal. The test audio fingerprint may be compared to a set of reference audio fingerprints to identify the audio signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2013Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicant: Facebook, Inc.Inventor: Sergiy Bilobrov

Publication number: 20140277641Abstract: An audio identification system determines whether a portion of a sample of an audio signal includes silence and generates a test audio fingerprint for the audio signal based on the presence of silence. In one embodiment, the audio identification system uses a value indicating silence for a portion of the test audio fingerprint corresponding to the portion of the audio signal that includes silence. When comparing the test audio fingerprint to reference audio fingerprints, the portion of the test audio fingerprint including the value indicating the presence of silence is not used. In another embodiment, the audio identification system replaces the portion including silence with additive audio and generates a test audio fingerprint for comparison based on the resulting modified sample.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2013Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicant: Facebook, Inc.Inventor: Sergiy Bilobrov

Publication number: 20140067863Abstract: To identify a media item from a database of media items that have common content, a region of interest is defined to include a plurality of frames of a test fingerprint that correspond to different segments of a media item. A media identification system queries a database of reference fingerprints to identify candidate reference fingerprints that contain a frame that matches a frame of the test fingerprint. When a candidate reference fingerprint is found, additional matching frames are determined and the region of interest is reduced to eliminate the matched frames of the test fingerprint. This continues until the region of interest is empty or there are no further matching candidates. Once the set of candidate reference fingerprints are identified, the media identification system compares the test fingerprint to the candidates to determine a closest match, thereby identifying the media item associated with the test fingerprint.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2013Publication date: March 6, 2014Applicant: Yahoo! Publication number: 20130345840Abstract: A system and method for aggregating emotions of users for a media program. A server stores reference audio signal fingerprints, each associated with a reference audio signal of the program. For each user, the server computer: receives a first audio signal fingerprint from a client device operated by a user, the first audio signal fingerprint associated with a first audio signal comprising ambient sound associated with the user and an audio signal of the program; searches the stored reference audio signal fingerprints to determine one that is related to the first audio signal fingerprint; determines an ambient sound signal by obtaining a difference between the stored reference audio signal fingerprint and the first audio signal fingerprint; and determines, using the ambient sound signal, an emotion of the user for a program segment. The server computer aggregates the emotions to determine a representative emotion of the users for the segment.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 20, 2012Publication date: December 26, 2013Applicant: Yahoo! Publication number: 20130290502Abstract: The present disclosure provides identification and continuous monitoring of content, such as broadcast content, in real time, using a hierarchical, distributed approach to content identification. Identification, synchronization and verification are provided. Identification may be performed by an identification server using a reference database of fingerprints. The same or another computing device may be used perform synchronization, such that at least some portion of each fingerprint generated by client devices that form a verification group are synchronized for verification. Verification used to determine whether a client device continues to receive the same content identified during identification compares at least a portion of each fingerprint generated by each client device of a verification group. If a mismatch occurs, identification may be repeated to identify the new content being received by a client device.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2012Publication date: October 31, 2013Inventors: Sergiy Bilobrov, Andres Hernandez Schafhauser

Patent number: 8396705Abstract: A method, database, and article of manufacture comprising a plurality of audio fingerprints. Each audio fingerprint contains characteristic information about a corresponding audio frame and is produced by filtering the corresponding audio frame into frequency bands, resampling the filtered audio signals at a nonlinear timescale, transforming the resampled audio signals for each frequency band to produce a feature vector for the frequency band, and computing the audio fingerprint based on the set of feature vectors, and one or more index values for one or more of the audio fingerprints, where the audio fingerprints are organized according to their index values.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2009Date of Patent: March 12, 2013Assignee: Yahoo! Patent number: 7747015Abstract: Copying of visual images by electronic devices is discouraged by metamerically altering the relative weights of the color components forming the visual images in a manner that is not perceptible to the human eye but which is perceptible in the copy. In a preferred technique, the visual images are represented by more than three primary color components whose relative values are varied in this manner. A primary application is to discourage copying by video cameras of movies displayed on theater movie screens, by causing the copies to contain unacceptable spatial or temporal variations in colors perceived by the human eye.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2008Date of Patent: June 29, 2010Assignee: QDesign USA, Inc.Inventors: Sergiy Bilobrov, Jason A.
