  • Patent number: 9981349
Abstract: A welding wire formed of a trace boron titanium base alloy is provided, along with welds formed from the wire and articles comprising one or more of such welds. A method may include forming such a weld or welds from such a welding wire, and may also include non-destructively inspecting titanium alloy articles comprising one or more of such welds using ultrasonic waves to detect internal flaws.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 5, 2014
Date of Patent: May 29, 2018
    Assignee: Arconic Inc.
Inventors: Jeffrey J. Bernath, Sesh A. Tamirisakandala
  • Publication number: 20170306449
Abstract: New beta-style (bcc) titanium alloys are disclosed. The new alloys generally include 2.0-6.0 wt. % Al, 4.0-12.0 wt. % V, and 1.0-5.0 wt. % Fe, the balance being titanium, any optional incidental elements, and unavoidable impurities. The new alloys may realize an improved combination of properties as compared to conventional titanium alloys.
    Type: Application
    Filed: April 25, 2017
    Publication date: October 26, 2017
Inventors: Jen C. Lin, Xinyan Yan, Joseph C. Sabol, David W. Heard, Faramarz MH Zarandi, Severine Cambier, Fusheng Sun, Ernest M. Crist, JR., Sesh A. Tamirisakandala
  • Publication number: 20170306448
Abstract: New alpha-beta titanium alloys are disclosed. The new alloys generally include 7.0-11.0 wt. % Al, and 1.0-4.0 wt. % Mo, wherein Al:Mo, by weight, is from 2.0:1-11.0:1, the balance being titanium, any optional incidental elements, and unavoidable impurities. The new alloys may realize an improved combination of properties as compared to conventional titanium alloys.

  • Patent number: 9651524
Abstract: A method is provided of non-destructively inspecting titanium alloy articles in the as-cast condition using ultrasonic waves to detect internal flaws, comprising modification of grain structure in the as-solidified ingot structure by the addition of trace boron to various titanium alloys. The ability to ultrasonically inspect as-cast billets combined with improved hot workability provided by trace boron enhancement permits an economical method of manufacture of titanium alloy articles destined for high performance applications.
