    Abstract: A method for automatic, image-based detection of abnormalities in a patient's cervix is disclosed. In an embodiment, a Cervitude Imaging System (CIS) processor of a CIS device illuminates a light source affixed to a distal end of a probe housing, receives cervical image data of the patient from a camera affixed to the distal end of the probe housing, generates a reconstructed image that includes reduced specular reflections, and segments the reconstructed image into at least one region of interest (ROI). The process also includes the CIS processor transmitting the reconstructed image comprising the at least one ROI to at least one of a host system and an input/output device.

    Abstract: A method, apparatus and system for providing an estimate of the level of compaction of a layer of pavement materials in real time. In some embodiments, a Retrofit Intelligent Compaction Analyzer (RICA) processor of a RICA device receives vibrational energy data from a sensor module which corresponds to impact responses of a drum of a roller machine during compaction of a pavement material over a section of pavement. The RICA processor also receives temperature data from the sensor module, determines an estimated level of compaction in real time of the section of pavement based on the vibrational energy data, pavement material characteristics data and the temperature data, and displays a density level percentage of the section of pavement on a display device for viewing by an operator of the roller machine.

    Abstract: An apparatus for the compaction of roadway materials includes a compaction analyzer for calculating stiffness during construction of the roadway. The apparatus generates a dynamic modulus for each layer of a roadway which can be used to calculate the overall effective modulus. A method for determining stiffness includes generating a dynamic modulus for each layer and calculating the overall effective modulus using the modulus of each layer.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for predicting the quality of compaction of beds of material with a vibratory device as a function of the vibration of the compaction device, the material of the bed, the lift thickness, the temperature, among other process parameters is described in this invention. The vibration of the compacting device during the compaction of the bed is compared with the vibration characteristics of the compacting device on a bed of known properties. The quality of compaction of the bed is then estimated based on the knowledge of the process parameters. The output of the apparatus may be used as a visual input to the operator of the compacting device or stored in an electronic format to depict the progress during the compaction process.
