  • Patent number: 7197334
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for migrating a control of a wireless communication service provided to a mobile station (MS) in a first network depending on a first technology to a second network depending on a second technology. When receiving a request for the wireless communication service in the first network by a mobile switch center (MSC), at least one instruction is obtained to grant or deny the wireless communication service from a first control device in the second network, the first control device providing the instruction based on its communication to a management subsystem for the control of the wireless communication service. If the wireless communication service is granted, a second control device in the first network controlled by the first control device allows the MS to execute the wireless communication service with a receiver.

  • Patent number: 6678517
Abstract: A method and system is provided for providing packet data service and circuit switch service during the same session to a mobile station (MS) whose capabilities do not allow such services to be provided thereon by the wireless network according to the its specifications. First, a voice service is provided between the MS and a first client through a switch device, the voice service conforming to a predetermined communication protocol. The MS is then notified about an incoming data service request from a second client to transfer a predetermined amount of data. The voice service is disconnected between the switch device and the MS if the user decides to activate the incoming data service. The voice service between the switch device and the first client is still maintained. The data service from the second client to the MS through the switch device is then established.

  • Patent number: 6047186
Abstract: The foregoing objects are achieved as is now described. Provided are a method and system for utilization with wireless communications systems having a cellular architecture covering a geographic area. The method and system accomplish their objects via the following. The geographic area is defined. One or more pairs of the sectors within the defined geographic area wherein a weak connection zone exists are determined. The geographic area is decomposed into two or more sub-areas wherein each sub-area is isolated from other sub-areas by the determined one or more pairs of sectors having a weak connection zone. A first of the sub-areas is selected. Frequency groups are assigned to each sector within the first selected sub-area such that signal to noise ratio is optimized. Thereafter, a second of the sub-areas is selected. One or more sectors within the second selected one of the sub-areas which are linked to sectors within the first selected sub-area are selected.

  • Patent number: 5875400
Abstract: In a cellular mobile access communications system each mobile terminal registers its location at intervals. From the registration history of each mobile, a probable group of cells within which a mobile terminal may be located is predicted. When a mobile is to be paged, the paging message is transmitted to the predicted cell group. If no response is received from the terminal, the page message is then broadcast to further system cells. This reduces the overall paging load on the system.

  • Patent number: 5828961
Abstract: A method for evenly partitioning a cellular telephone system into a plurality of sets. The method partitions subsets of a cellular telephone system, such as cells, into a plurality of sets, such as mobile switching centers. The method first models each cell as a node having a node weight representing real time operating cost of the cell and a node edge weight representing call handoffs to and from the cell. The method similarly models each set having a set weight and set edge weight, which are similar to the node weight and node edge weight. Once modeled, the nodes are initially distributed into the sets so that each set has approximately the same set weight. Then a slack node is provided to each set. The slack node allows all the sets to have the exact same set weight and also accommodates for variability in set edge weights. Once the slack nodes are in place, several binary split operations are performed on the nodes.

  • Patent number: 5737702
Abstract: A cellular communications system serves fixed access subscriber terminals each located in a system cell defined as the home cell for that terminal. Each subscriber terminal is allocated a super home cell comprising the home cell itself together with a number of cells adjacent thereto. System transactions, e.g. access, paging and hand off, relating to a terminal may be conducted in any one of the cells comprising the super home cell group.
