  • Patent number: 9894807
Abstract: An apparatus is provided which includes a changeable cover assembly sized to cover, at least in part, an air outlet side of an electronics rack. The cover assembly, when positioned at the air outlet side of the rack, redirects and vents airflow egressing from the air outlet side. The cover assembly includes a frame and at least one vent cover. The frame has at least one opening through which air egressing from the electronics rack passes, and the vent cover(s) is coupled to the frame and overlies, at least in part, the opening(s) in the frame to facilitate redirecting and venting the air passing through the frame. The at least one vent cover is changeable to change a direction of the vented air. For instance, the vent cover(s) may be reversible, or otherwise adjustable or changeable, to change the direction of vented air egressing from the cover assembly.

  • Patent number: 8028793
Abstract: A noise attenuating method, and a system thereof, for controlling acoustical noise in an electronic equipment enclosure is disclosed. The noise attenuating system includes one or more noise attenuating inserts configured to be removably attached to the electronic equipment enclosure so as to block noise from at least one electronic device contained in the electronic equipment enclosure and to channel an airflow from an inlet point to one or more outlet points of the electronic equipment enclosure. The method includes arranging one or more noise attenuating inserts within an electronic equipment enclosure such that the noise attenuating inserts simultaneously block noise from at least one electronic device contained in the enclosure and channel an airflow path circulating therein.

  • Patent number: 7644631
Abstract: An electronics component cabinet cover test device includes a housing that defines a test apparatus provided with first and second openings. A cover member is mounted to one of the openings, and an air moving device is arranged in the test apparatus. The air moving device includes an air inlet and an air outlet and generates airflow within the test apparatus. A sensor capable of measuring a characteristic of the airflow is mounted within the test apparatus. An airflow impedance device mounted to the inlet or the outlet of the air moving device. The airflow impedance device is configured to simulate an airflow obstruction. A controller establishes a flow rate of air from the air moving device and receives airflow data corresponding to the characteristic of the airflow from the sensor to determine one of an acoustical performance characteristic and a thermal performance characteristic of the cover member.

  • Patent number: 7646603
Abstract: A noise-reducing attachment apparatus for a heat exchanger door is provided for facilitating attenuation of noise emanating from an electronics rack. The apparatus includes a frame structure configured to coupled to the heat exchanger door. The door includes in air opening and air-to-liquid heat exchanger, and air passing through the air opening also passes across the heat exchanger. The air opening facilitates passage of external air through the electronics rack. The frame structure defines in part an airflow channel through the apparatus, wherein air passing through the air opening also passes through the airflow channel when the apparatus is operatively coupled to the door. An acoustically absorptive material, which is coupled to the frame structure and at least partially defines the airflow opening through the apparatus, is selected and positioned to attenuate noise emanating from the electronics rack when the apparatus is coupled to the heat exchanger door.
