A current setting status associated with each of a set of adjustable options associated with the determined media type is determined. A set of option icons that each represents one of the set of adjustable options is identified. Each identified option icon is paired with the associated current setting status of each adjustable option. A menuing input is detected. An overlay user interface menu, including only one option icon and the associated current setting status pair, is displayed over full-screen content on a display. Abstract: Using a TV, a viewer watching broadcast TV or Internet video content on a display can select a “Video Search” application indicating viewer desire to obtain information about a currently playing video program. The application is invoked to send a name of the currently playing video program to a server on the Internet and associated with a database to cause the server to execute a search only of the database associated with the Internet server and not to execute a search of the Internet. The server returns metadata related to the currently playing video program, which is presented on the display along with the currently playing video program.

Abstract: A user can toggle between GUI input and touch screen input with the GUI hidden using touch gestures correlated to respective hidden GUI elements and, thus, to respective commands for a TV and/or disk player sending AV data thereto. When in the GUI input mode, an animated hand can be presented on the display moving through the touch gesture corresponding to a selected GUI element to train the user on which touch gestures correspond to which GUI elements (and, thus, to respective commands for a TV and/or disk player sending AV data thereto.

Abstract: A method for obtaining information on an audio video program being presented on a consumer electronics (CE) device includes receiving at the CE device a viewer command to recognize the audio video program being presented on the CE device. The method also includes receiving signals from a microphone representative of audio from the audio video program as sensed by the microphone as the audio is played real time on the CE device. The method then includes executing voice recognition on the signals from the microphone to determine words in the audio from the audio video program as sensed by the microphone. Words are then uploaded to an Internet server, where they are correlated to at least one audio video script. The method then includes receiving back from the Internet server information correlated by the server using the words to the audio video program.
