Publication number: 20210261135Abstract: Methods and systems for monitoring vehicle occupants using infrared and other sensors are disclosed. The systems may use infrared sensor data to identify each vehicle occupant using biometric signatures (such as heartbeat or facial recognition). Vehicle occupant characteristics may be determined that include skeletal characteristics of the occupants. Further monitoring of the occupants using sensor data may occur until an abnormal situation is detected. Abnormal situations may include medical emergencies, driver impairment, security threats, or similar situations requiring correcting action. The system may then determine and implement an appropriate response to the abnormal situation. Such responses may include generating alerts, adjusting vehicle environmental controls, taking control of operation of the vehicle (such as an autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicle), or initiating wireless communication with an outside party, such as an emergency service.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 2, 2018Publication date: August 26, 2021Applicant: State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance CompanyInventors: Seth O'Flaherty, Sean Mahaffey, Ayush Kumar, Jacob Schroeder

Patent number: 9974441Abstract: A fever detecting wrist band device comprises a flexible band and a fever detection device attached to the flexible band. The fever detection device comprises a thermochromic liquid crystal (TLC) material, which can change colors corresponding to a set of temperature ranges, encased in a transparent casing. The transparent casing has a thin bottom section to allow the TLC material to gather body heat when the wrist band is worn by a user and the bottom section comes in contact with the skin of the user. The transparent casing also insulates the TLC material from all sides which are not in contact with the skin of the user so that surrounding temperature of a user does not affect the color change of the TLC material. When the user wears the fever detecting wrist band device, the TLC material might change color indicating a higher body temperature of the user which in turn could indicate that either the user has a fever or the user might have a fever soon if not treated immediately.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2015Date of Patent: May 22, 2018Inventors: Seth O.
