  • Patent number: 8758925
Abstract: Provided is a battery system in which an interior part of a battery structure includes phase-change particles including a capsule and phase-change materials. The phase-change materials have a high latent heat of phase change at a specific temperature, and are encapsulated in the capsule. The capsule is made of an inert material. The battery system in accordance with the present invention can prolong a service life of the battery by inhibiting temperature elevation inside the battery under normal operating conditions without substantial effects on size, shape and performance of the battery, and further, can inhibit the risk of explosion resulting from a sharp increase in temperature inside the battery under abnormal operating conditions, thereby contributing to battery safety.

  • Patent number: 8343647
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a middle- or large-sized battery pack including a plurality of unit cells electrically connected with each other, wherein the battery pack is constructed in a structure in which a heat transfer medium flows through gaps defined between the unit cells for controlling the overall temperature of the battery pack to be within a predetermined temperature range for the optimum operation of the battery pack, and each unit cell is provided at the outer surface thereof, at which the heat transfer medium is brought into contact with each unit cell, with a layer containing a phase transformation material (‘phase transformation layer’) for minimizing individual temperature difference between the unit cells. The present invention has the effect of controlling the overall temperature of the battery pack and individual controlling the temperatures of unit cells constituting the battery pack.

  • Patent number: 8323833
Abstract: Provided are an anode for a battery comprising: (a) an anode active material, (b) TiO2, and (c) a styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), and a lithium secondary battery comprising the same. By using titanium oxide and SBR together with an anode active material as the anode components in the present invention, increase in the anode resistivity during the high-temperature storage and reduction in the battery capacity by the resistivity are inhibited, thereby the overall performances of the battery can be improved.

  • Patent number: 7749660
Abstract: Provided is a battery electrolyte comprising an electrolyte salt, an electrolyte solvent and a compound producing chemical reaction products with the exception of water through a chemical reaction with an acid (H+), and a secondary battery comprising the same. The battery electrolyte according to the present invention can achieve improved high-temperature storage characteristics and the life characteristics of the battery, by using a compound decreasing a concentration of HX (X=F, Cl, Br or I) through a chemical reaction with HX (X=F, Cl, Br or I) which is present in the battery and therefore causes deterioration of the battery performance.
