  • Publication number: 20220197826
Abstract: A method and apparatus of protecting a memory from a write attack includes dividing a cacheline of memory into a plurality of sub-blocks. A codeword is generated from at least one sub-block of the plurality of sub-blocks and a complement of the at least one sub-block. • Publication number: 20220197506
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for determining data placement based on packet metadata are disclosed. A system includes a traffic analyzer that determines data placement across connected devices based on observed values of the metadata fields in actively exchanged packets across a plurality of protocol types. In one implementation, the protocol that is supported by the system is the compute express link (CXL) protocol. The traffic analyzer performs various actions in response to events observed in a packet stream that match items from a pre-configured list. Data movement is handled underneath the software applications by changing the virtual-to-physical address translation once the data movement is completed. After the data movement is finished, threads will pull in the new host physical address into their translation lookaside buffers (TLBs) via a page table walker or via an address translation service (ATS) request.

  • Publication number: 20220188185
Abstract: An apparatus and method for efficiently transmitting data are described. A transmitter sends data to a receiver. An encoder of the transmitter divides a received first block of data into multiple sub-blocks. The encoder selects a portion of each sub-block to compare to one another. A portion in a particular sub-block has a same offset and a same size as other portions of other sub-blocks. If the encoder determines the multiple portions match one another, the encoder sends, to the receiver, a second block of data corresponding to the first block of data. The second block of data has a same size as a size of the received first block of data, and the second block of data includes security data from one of multiple error correction schemes. Therefore, the second block of data provides security without increasing an amount of data to transmit.

  • Publication number: 20210390998
Abstract: A method includes adding a set of one or more victim rows to a first probabilistic filter and to a second probabilistic filter, in response to a memory access request, identifying a candidate victim row adjacent to a memory address specified by a memory access request, identifying the candidate victim row as a victim row in the set of victim rows based on performing a lookup of the candidate victim row in a selected filter, where the selected filter includes one of the first probabilistic filter and the second probabilistic filter, in response to identifying the candidate row as the victim row, enabling a row hammering countermeasure, clearing the first probabilistic filter in each of a first set of time periods, and clearing the second probabilistic filter in each of a second set of time periods interleaved with the first set of time periods.

  • Publication number: 20210342285
Abstract: Data are serially communicated over an interconnect between an encoder and a decoder. The encoder includes a first training unit to count a frequency of symbol values in symbol blocks of a set of N number of symbol blocks in an epoch. A circular shift unit of the encoder stores a set of most-recently-used (MRU) amplitude values. An XOR unit is coupled to the first training unit and the first circular shift unit as inputs and to the interconnect as output. A transmitter is coupled to the encoder XOR unit and the interconnect and thereby contemporaneously sends symbols and trains on the symbols. In a system, a device includes a receiver and decoder that receive, from the encoder, symbols over the interconnect. The decoder includes its own training unit for decoding the transmitted symbols.

  • Patent number: 11144208
Abstract: In some embodiments, a memory controller in a processor includes a base value cache, a compressor, and a metadata cache. The compressor is coupled to the base value cache and the metadata cache. The compressor compresses a data block using at least a base value and delta values. The compressor determines whether the size of the data block exceeds a data block threshold value. Based on the determination of whether the size of the compressed data block generated by the compressor exceeds the data block threshold value, the memory controller transfers only a set of the compressed delta values to memory for storage. A decompressor located in the lower level cache of the processor decompresses the compressed data block using the base value stored in the base value cache, metadata stored in the metadata cache and the delta values stored in memory.

  • Publication number: 20210191869
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for implementing a multi-tiered approach to cache compression are disclosed. A cache includes a cache controller, light compressor, and heavy compressor. The decision on which compressor to use for compressing cache lines is made based on certain resource availability such as cache capacity or memory bandwidth. This allows the cache to opportunistically use complex algorithms for compression while limiting the adverse effects of high decompression latency on system performance. To address the above issue, the proposed design takes advantage of the heavy compressors for effectively reducing memory bandwidth in high bandwidth memory (HBM) interfaces as long as they do not sacrifice system performance. Accordingly, the cache combines light and heavy compressors with a decision-making unit to achieve reduced off-chip memory traffic without sacrificing system performance.

  • Publication number: 20210191797
Abstract: A method includes receiving a write request for writing incoming data to a target memory line and, in response to the write request, comparing the incoming data with existing data in the target memory line to determine a number of a first type of state transition. The method further includes, in response to determining that the number of the first type of state transition for the write request exceeds a threshold, prior to writing the incoming data to the target memory line, storing adjacent data from each of a set of memory lines adjacent to the target memory line, and after writing the incoming data to the target memory line, writing the stored data to the set of adjacent memory lines.

  • Patent number: 10950292
Abstract: An integrated circuit includes an aggressor wordline cache and logic that determines a candidate upper adjacent address and a candidate lower adjacent address of a target memory row corresponding to a read request to memory. When at least one of the candidate upper adjacent address or the candidate lower adjacent address are determined to be a victim row, the logic checks the aggressor wordline cache for a cache hit for the target memory row. When there is a cache hit in the aggressor wordline cache, the logic sends a corresponding cache line as a response to the read request, otherwise the logic causes a read of content from the memory. In certain examples, the logic includes a stored bit array and a hash function-based filter, which determines whether any of the candidate upper adjacent address and the candidate lower adjacent address are victim rows represented in the stored bit array.
