  • Publication number: 20210388757
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for increasing power output and enhancing efficiency of an internal combustion engine, which comprises: cooling exhaust gas of the engine in a recuperating heat exchanger by transferring heat to stored air; compressing the exhaust gas to a pressure requisite for admission into the engine utilizing a compander module powered by expanding previously compressed and stored air in an expander without parasitic power consumption; mixing the exhaust gas with expanded air; and cooling or heating the exhaust gas to a suitable temperature in a final trim cooler or heater and supplying the exhaust gas to the engine at a pressure requisite at an admission point, without the need for additional compression and concomitant parasitic power consumption needed for exhaust gas recirculation. Extra electric power output and higher thermal efficiency is facilitated by using the excess power generation from the compander in a synchronous AC generator.

  • Publication number: 20120317973
Abstract: A combined cycle power plant includes a first engine, a second engine, a first heat recovery steam generator, a second heat recovery steam generator, and a steam turbine. The second engine is relatively more productive but less efficient than the first engine. The first engine generates a first exhaust gas, and the second engine generates a second exhaust gas. The first heat recovery steam generator transfers excess energy from the first exhaust gas to a first flow of water, creating a first flow of steam. The second heat recovery steam generator transfers excess energy from the second exhaust gas to a second flow of water, creating a second flow of steam. The second heat recovery steam generator further transfers excess energy from the second exhaust gas to the first flow of steam and the second flow of steam, creating a flow of superheated steam. The steam turbine receives the flow of superheated steam from the second heat recovery steam generator.

  • Publication number: 20110079017
Abstract: A system for power generation comprises an engine operative to output an exhaust gas, a carbon capture means operative to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the exhaust gas and output the CO2, and a compressor operative to receive the CO2 and output compressed CO2 that cools a component of the engine.

  • Patent number: 7874162
Abstract: A supercritical steam combined cycle system including a gas turbine; a supercritical steam turbine system including a supercritical section, a high pressure section, an intermediate pressure section and at least one low pressure section; and a supercritical steam heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) for receiving exhaust gas from the gas turbine for heating fluid from the steam turbine system. The HRSG includes a supercritical evaporator arranged to supply steam to a superheater between the supercritical evaporator and the inlet of the HRSG and a reheater receiving cold reheat steam from and returning reheated steam to the steam turbine system. The reheater includes a first section disposed downstream of and a second section disposed upstream of the supercritical evaporator along the exhaust gas flow path.

  • Patent number: 7644573
Abstract: A system capable of both increasing warm day output and maintaining compressor operating margin across the ambient and load range of a gas turbine combined cycle installation. The proposed solution takes advantage of the fact that both goals can be satisfied by manipulation of compressor inlet air temperature. Specifically, the system is designed to heat inlet air as may be required to maintain safe compressor operating margin at low ambient air temperatures or when burning dilute fuels. In the alternative, the system is designed to cool inlet air on warm days.
