Abstract: A hydrostatic sensor device and method is provided for detecting changes in elevation in pipes, boreholes, and tunnels below ground. A pressure transducer for sensing differential changes in fluid pressure is provided at one end of an extensible hose or other flexible conduit, while the other end is maintained in an equalizer tank at a reference atmospheric pressure at a given elevation. As one end of the system is moved along a grade, pressure changes at the transducer end relative to the reference pressure at the equalizer end are measured corresponding to elevation changes and are recorded against a distance scale, thus providing an accurate profile of the line surveyed.
