  • Publication number: 20180210067
Abstract: A method of synchronizing a plurality of spatially distributed multi-input multi-output (MIMO) radar systems includes designating one of the plurality of MIMO radar systems that includes a linear frequency modulator as a master MIMO radar system, and designating each of the other plurality of MIMO radar systems as slave MIMO radar systems. Each of the slave MIMO radar systems receives an output of the linear frequency modulator. A synchronization signal is sent from the linear frequency modulator through the modulator splitter to each of the slave MIMO radar systems over respective cables, and a return signal is sent from each of the slave MIMO radar systems to the master MIMO radar system over the respective cables. A time delay is determined between the master MIMO radar system and each of the slave MIMO radar systems based on a frequency difference between the synchronization signal and the respective return signal.

  • Publication number: 20180203108
Abstract: A system and method to achieve angular ambiguity resolution in a two-dimensional Doppler synthetic aperture radar system include transmitting pulses using a plurality of transmit elements during movement of a platform on which the system is mounted. Reflections are received from a target resulting from the pulses and the reflections are processed to determine a Doppler measurement. The processing includes isolating movement of the target in the Doppler measurement, and determining a target azimuth angle and a target elevation angle to the target based on an iterative process that includes estimating the target elevation angle or the target azimuth angle and then determining the target azimuth angle or the target elevation angle, respectively, based on a beamforming matrix. The beamforming matrix indicates amplitude and phase at each azimuth angle and each elevation angle among a set of azimuth angles and a set of elevation angles.

  • Publication number: 20180156892
Abstract: A radar system and method of configuring a radar system that includes two or more antennas to transmit a respective transmit waveform. Two or more waveform generation devices include respective modulation elements. Each of the two or more waveform generation devices has a one-to-one correspondence with one of the two or more antennas, and each of the two or more waveform generation devices generates the respective transmit waveform for a first period of time and generates an arbitrary response for a second period of time.

  • Publication number: 20180156911
Abstract: A method and system to estimate a velocity of a target use a radar to transmit a linear frequency modulated chirp from each of a plurality of transmit elements and receive resulting reflections. The system also includes a processor to process the reflections resulting from a frame of chirps at a time and compute the velocity based on determining a number of the frames of chirps for the target to move a specified distance. The processor processes the reflections by performing a range fast Fourier transform (FFT) such that the specified distance is a range spanned by a range bin and each frame of chirps is one transmission of the chirp by each of the plurality of transmit elements.

  • Publication number: 20180113191
Abstract: A radar system mounted on a platform includes a transmitter turned off during a silent interval, and a receiver to receive one or more signals resulting from transmission by one or more other radars that transmit linear frequency modulated signals during the silent interval. A processor estimates parameters of the one or more other radars. The parameters include bandwidth and slope of the respective linear frequency modulated signal and the parameters are used to modify a transmitted signal or the processing by the radar system.

  • Publication number: 20170371030
Abstract: A multi-input multi-output (MIMO) radar system and method of performing low-latency decoding in a MIMO radar system. The method includes transmitting a different linear frequency-modulated continuous wave (LFM-CW) transmit signal from each of N transmit elements of the MIMO radar system, each transmit signal associated with teach of the N transmit elements including a respective code, and receiving reflections associated with each of the transmit signals from each of the N transmit elements at each receive element of the MIMO radar system. Processing each symbol corresponding with each received reflection on a symbol-by-symbol basis is done to obtain a respective decoded signal prior to receiving all the received reflections associated with all the N transmit elements, wherein the processing includes using a Hadamard matrix with N columns in which each column is associated with the respective code transmitted by each of the N transmit elements.
