  • Patent number: 8150707
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assisting a user to formulate, apply and adhere to a changed behavior program. The user's commitment is established by presenting a number of potential barriers to implementing a desired behavioral change; asking a user to select one or more potential barriers; presenting a selected number of possible solutions to the barriers, receiving user input selecting at least one solution; and prompting the user to enter a commitment to one or more actions intended to assist the behavioral change. Maintenance of an exercise regime is assisted by displaying a selection of options for activities to be included in the exercise regime; allowing a user to select activities; displaying a schedule of planned exercise activities; and sending an electronic alert message to the user in advance of the scheduled activity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 16, 2005
Date of Patent: April 3, 2012
Inventors: Christine Marie Hayet, Robert Hurling, Brian Patrick Newby, Shail Patel

  • Patent number: 7106889
Abstract: An image analysis system for automated reading of printed multi-character codes, for example on antibiotic susceptibility testing disks, makes use of an orientation means, for example an underline printed beneath the code, to bring the code or its image into canonical alignment with an optimum reading direction for the code. Automated reading of the codes on randomly-orientated AST disks is therefore possible.

  • Publication number: 20060045122
Abstract: The present invention provides an electronic system for interaction between a specific user and a service provider, comprising: (a) receipt means for obtaining information from the user for establishing a profile of said user; (b) control means for the service provider for providing and displaying one or more system responses to the input provided under (a); (c) means for initialising one or more business rules for each type of system response, said business rules specifying the match between the system response and the related user profile and also the desired outcome in terms of actions to be taken by the user; (d) means for selecting the most appropriate business rule for the user, based on the input given under (a); (e) means for observing the behaviour of the user; and (f) feedback means for updating the business rules based on the difference between the desired outcome and the actual behaviour by the user.

  • Patent number: 6768973
Abstract: A method is described for using a computer in finding solutions to a problem dependent on a number of criteria. A model algorithm is provided for each of the criteria, each model algorithm providing a prediction for a corresponding criteria when a candidate solution is inputted into the model algorithm. At least one model algorithm provides a prediction with a prediction error bar for the corresponding criteria. Criteria are selected to optimise a set of candidate solutions. An algorithm is provided for optimisation of the set of candidate solutions in accordance with the selected criteria. A first set of candidate solutions is provided and the optimisation algorithm generates one or more new candidate solutions. All candidate solutions are inputted into the number of model algorithms to obtain predictions and at least one prediction error bar.

  • Patent number: 6757667
Abstract: A method is described for using a computer for optimizing formulations against a number of criteria. A model algorithm is provided for each of the criteria, each model algorithm providing a prediction for a corresponding criteria when a candidate formulation is inputted into the model algorithm. Criteria are selected to optimize a set of candidate formulations. An algorithm is provided for optimization of the set of candidate formulations in accordance with the selected criteria. A first set of candidate formulations is provided and the optimization algorithm generates one or more new candidate formulations. All candidate formulations are inputted into the number of model algorithms to obtain predictions, and information of the set of candidate formulations obtained by generation and/or previous optimizations and/or experiments is used to select candidate formulations from the set to obtain a Pareto optimal set of candidate formulations.
