    Abstract: The technology disclosed herein enables consideration of battery status for an endpoint when configuring a codec for a communication session. In a particular example, a method provides, in an endpoint being powered by a battery, identifying a request to establish a communication session with the endpoint and determining a battery status of the battery. In response to determining the battery status satisfies a low-power criterion, the method provides selecting one or more parameters of a plurality of possible parameters for the communication session that result in lower power usage relative to non-selected parameters of the plurality of possible parameters and establishing the communication session using the one or more parameters.
