  • Publication number: 20200002489
Abstract: A method of forming a thermoplastic polymer film includes melting and subjecting a polymer resin material to shear stresses in a range of 250 kPa to 400 kPa to form a refined resin material and forming the thermoplastic polymer film from the refined resin material. The film is substantially free of microgels having a largest dimension greater than 50 microns. The film has a thickness in a range of 15 micron to 80 microns. The film has a microgel count in a range of 0 to 0.2 per mm2 of microgels having the maximum dimension greater than 10 microns.

  • Patent number: 10150896
Abstract: An illustrative aspect of the invention provides a film comprising a release layer defining a first outer film surface and an adhesion layer defining a second outer film surface opposite the first outer film surface. The adhesion layer comprises a hydrogenated styrene block copolymer with a styrene content in a range of about 30% to 40% by weight. In some embodiments, the adhesion layer may further comprise low density polyethylene (LDPE). In some embodiments, the adhesion layer may further comprise LDPE and high density polyethylene (HDPE).

  • Publication number: 20160355650
Abstract: A method of refining a polymer resin material is provided. The method comprises melting and subjecting the resin material to shear stresses in a range of 250 kPa to 400 kPa to form a refined resin material. The refined resin material may be extruded, solidified and cut into reduced microgel resin pellets, which may be subsequently melted and extruded to form a reduced microgel film.

  • Publication number: 20040023575
Abstract: A vacuum coated, liquid impermeable, vapor permeable laminate article and a method for making same are disclosed. The laminate may be formed of a netting material which is coated with a thin layer of vapor permeable polymer and subsequently passed over a vacuum forming drum to draw the polymer coating downward into the openings in the netting material. Vacuum coating produces thinned regions in the coating layer which provide greater vapor permeability. In laminates with sufficiently large openings in the netting material, the coating may directly contact a vacuum forming screen resulting in a plurality small indentations or cells within a single thinned region of the liquid impervious coating further increasing vapor permeability.

  • Patent number: 6558788
Abstract: A transfer film for holographic images is a multilayer structure including a core and at least one outer layer having a sufficient thickness for receiving a holographic image impressed into it. The outer layer is thinner than the core layer and is a propylene/ethylene random copolymer having a DSC melting point in excess of 120° C. and less than 143° C. The outer layer further includes an antistatic/release additive therein for permitting multiple releases of a metallized layer initially applied to the outer layer having the holographic image impressed into it, onto a surface of another substrate.

  • Patent number: 6440533
Abstract: A coextruded multilayer film laminate featuring a polyolefin based formulation which closely matches the mechanical performance criteria of a plasticized PVC film is disclosed. This film is particularly suitable for use as a replacement film for plasticized PVC in a variety of medical and non-medical applications. The multilayer films of the present invention offer a particular set of mechanical properties, normally associated with plasticized PVC, including easy stretch, high degree of recovery, low fatigue and minimal permanent set. Moreover, these polyolefin based formulations do not contain any known or suspected carcinogenic compounds and may be produced at costs that are highly competitive with the costs associated with a conventional, plasticized PVC film.
