  • Publication number: 20070092781
Abstract: The solid oxide fuel cell module includes a manifold, a plate, a cathode electrode, a fuel cell and an anode electrode. The manifold includes an air or oxygen inlet in communication with divergent passages above the periphery of the cell which combine to flow the air or oxygen radially or inwardly for reception in the center of the cathode flow field. The latter has interconnects providing circuitous cooling passages in a generally radial outward direction cooling the fuel cell and which interconnects are formed of different thermal conductivity materials for a preferential cooling.

  • Publication number: 20060204796
Abstract: Temperature differences and temperature gradients across Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) are minimized through the used of a manifold heat exchanger, which reduces thermal stress and increase cell life. Air passes from a periphery of a cell toward the cell center, where it absorbs cell heat. The air then proceeds to the manifold heat exchanger located adjacent the cell, where the air indirectly absorbs further heat. Additionally, fuel is directed countercurrent to air, which keeps hot spots away from cell stack seals and directs hot air toward intense reforming areas on the cell to mitigate quenching effects of internal reforming.

  • Patent number: 5970129
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for administrative monitoring of a calling card fraud prevention system is disclosed. An administrative monitor continuously oversees the functions performed by components of the fraud prevention system and thereby detects abnormalities in system performance. The administrative monitor regularly compiles status information from system components and applies a set of predefined thresholds in order to determine whether abnormalities are present. Upon detection of an abnormality, the administrative monitor generates a health warning, which is displayed on workstation monitors to provide notice of the problem.
