Abstract: The present invention relates generally to the field of ballistic resistant composite materials that are made of a plurality of monolayers of ballistic resistant polymer fibers. More particularly, this invention relates to composite materials having improved antiballistic protection and that include at least two distinct types of polymeric fibers, and preferably including poly-(p-phenylenebenzobisoxazole), aramid or polyethylene fibers. The invention also is directed to various methods of making these ballistic resistant materials and to body armor containing the same.
