  • Publication number: 20230276432
Abstract: Methods and systems establish a traffic policy for a personal electronic device based on one or more physical characteristics of the device. In some aspects, a database of traffic policies is maintained. The traffic policies are for accessing a network via a wireless communications link. A network access unit receives a request from a personal electronic device to access the network. The request is analyzed to determine a physical characteristic of the device. A traffic policy is established from the database for the device based, at least in part, on the determined physical characteristic of the device. Transmission of network traffic for the device is then scheduled based at least in part, on the established traffic policy.

  • Publication number: 20230047593
Abstract: Methods and systems for improved device authentication and presentation of media content to passengers aboard a transportation apparatus are disclosed. In some aspects, authentication of a device may be simplified based on previous associations made between the device, a user, and travel on a transportation apparatus within a particular time period. In some aspects, passenger selected media content may be prepositioned on stable storage within a transportation apparatus such that the media content may be provided to one or more passengers of the transportation apparatus while the transportation apparatus is in motion, and thus avoid transfer of the media content over an off-board wireless communication link.

  • Patent number: 10601684
Abstract: Methods and systems for visualization of mobile terminal communication link status are disclosed. In some aspects, one or more mobile terminal icons are provided for display on a map of a geographic area at map locations representing geographic locations of the mobile terminals. Coverage area icons of one or more network services are also displayed on the map. Features of the mobile terminal and coverage area icons indicate a network status of the respective terminals and coverage areas. In some aspects, prior location icons representing prior locations of the mobile terminal(s) are displayed on the map. In some of these aspects, clicking or hovering on the prior location icons provides for display, link performance data when the corresponding mobile terminal was at the geographic location represented by the prior location icon.

  • Publication number: 20080181108
Abstract: Systems and methods for regulating the throughput of a channel between a gateway and one or more subscriber terminals are disclosed. Various embodiments of the invention provide for monitoring link utilization between a gateway and a subscriber terminal at, for example, the physical layer of the OSI model. Based in part on the link utilization the link throughput may be throttled at a layer higher than, for example, the transport layer. Regulating may occur by advertising a decreased TCP window size or intelligently dropping packets. In another embodiment, a subscriber terminal may estimate the signal to noise ratio of a forward link channel and communicate this SNR to the gateway. The gateway may adjust the modulation and/or coding of the signal in response to the SNR. The gateway may also throttle deliver of packets in response to changes these changes in the modulation and/or coding of the signal.
