    Abstract: The present invention provides a novel sensor for the estimation of total cholesterol in human blood serum using molecular imprint of cholesterol. Human blood serum contains 150-250 mg/dl cholesterol. The present invention provides a sensor device and a process for the fabrication of ISFET (Ion Selective Field Effect Transister) coated with molecular imprint of cholesterol on the SiO2+Si3N4 dielectric gate of the said electrode. The molecular imprint of cholesterol (MIPC) anchored in to a silica matrix sensing material is identified as a sensing material which has specific selectivity towards the cholesterol in presence of other organic constituents in human blood serum.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to the development of a biosensor to determine potassium in human blood serum using dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6) as ionophore. Human blood serum contains potassium in ppm levels i.e 137 to 200 mg/litre and sodium co exists with a 30 times higher concentration. Such a high concentration tends to interfere the selectivity towards potassium, but DB18C6 proves to have an excellent selectivity towards potassium and is highly sensitive to the lowest concentration of potassium levels present in the human blood serum. So the present invention reports the fabrication and characterization of ISFET (Ion Selective Field Effect transistor) coated with a monolayer of crown ether, dissolved in chloroform, on the gate of electrode.

    Abstract: An improved radial tire is reinforced with at least two carcass plies of radial rubberized cords wherein a radial inner or first ply extends continuously from one bead portion to another bead portion through the sidewall areas and across the crown of the tire and a radial outer or second ply in continuous contact with the inner ply has two sections disposed such that the second ply is discontinuous or interrupted in the crown area. The second ply is also foreshortened in the bead portion of the tire rather than being wrapped around the bead. An inner liner is also in constant contact with the inner ply from bead portion to bead portion without being wrapped therearound.

    Abstract: In a tire mold having a pair of mold parts separable about cooperating surfaces of the respective mold parts which define a parting line region, each of the mold parts includes a surface defining at least a portion of a cavity for shaping a tire. The tire mold further includes a plurality of pockets for defining a respective plurality of circumferentially arranged tread elements in the tire. The improvement comprises a vacuum source in fluid communication with the cavity of the tire mold for evacuating fluid from the cavity in the tire mold through a space located between the surfaces of the mold parts which define the parting line region. A vent fluidly connects a pair of adjacent pockets. A passage associated with one of the mold parts provides fluid communication between the vacuum source and one of the pair of adjacent pockets connected by the vent.

    Abstract: A pneumatic tire is produced for off-the-road use having a tread formed from a silica-free rubber tread compound consisting essentially of particular types of rubber, and at least 55 phr of a particular high structure, fine particle carbon black having a CTAB from 130-150 m.sup.2 /g, N.sub.2 adsorption of 140-160 m.sup.2 /g, a tint of 125-140%, a DBPA of 120-140 ml/100 g, and a mean particle diameter of about 24 nanometers; and, from about 4 to about 8 phr of processing oil, antioxidant/antiozonants, curing agents and activators each present in an amount less than 10 phr. The result is a tire with substantially better cutting and chipping resistance than an identically produced tire with a tread containing silica in combination with a carbon black having essentially the same mean particle diameter but lower structure, without any noticeable loss in treadwear, or with an improvement in treadwear, that is, less loss due to treadwear.

    Abstract: A predominantly styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber (SBR) tire tread compound may be reinforced with a special high structure carbon black designated herein as a N103, having a relatively high volatiles content (as indicated by its iodine number), and a superfine particle size smaller than about 20 nanometers (nm), a DBPA greater than 120 cm.sup.3 /100 g carbon black, and an I.sub.2 No in the range from 130-160 mg/g, in an oil extended tread compound in which there is at least 30 parts of processing oil per 100 parts of rubber; the presence of this N103 black in a major amount relative to the total amount of high structure black, is essential.

    Abstract: A pneumatic radial tire is provided with a tread having from 1 part by weight of hydrated amorphous fine-particle silica per 3 parts of carbon black tread reinforcing filler, to about 3 parts by weight of the silica to 1 part of the carbon black. The amount of silica present is preferably in the range from about 18 parts to about 50 parts by weight per 100 parts of natural or synthetic rubber. When such a tread is compounded with a mercaptosilane in which the mercapto group is reversibly blocked, the tread provides reduced rolling resistance without loss of traction. Such reduction in rolling resistance without loss of traction is not observed when the silica is not coupled with the mercaptosilane coupling agent.
