  • Patent number: 9977962
Abstract: A system and method for surveying a region of interest with a mobile platform having a sensor having a plurality of narrow spectral bands spanning a contiguous frequency space is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method comprises generating a simulated spectral representation of a region of interest, identifying at least one of the plurality of materials as a material of interest within the region of interest, identifying other of the plurality of materials not identified as a material of interest as background materials within the region of interest, sensing, with the sensor, spectral data in the region of interest in the plurality of narrow spectral bands, selecting and transmitting only the spectral data of the one of more of the plurality of spectral bands of the sensor according to the simulated spectral representation of the material of interest.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 1, 2016
Date of Patent: May 22, 2018
    Assignee: The Boeing Company
Inventors: Robert J. Klein, Shane D. Arnott
