Patent number: 10373400Abstract: A vehicle email notification system and method in which triggers are used to initiate the generation and transmission of email messages that provide diverse types of dynamic vehicle information to the owner or other authorized subscriber. The email notifications are triggered by different events, some of which are independent of the vehicle (e.g., a 30 day trigger to provide the subscriber with a monthly vehicle status report), and others of which occur at the vehicle, such as a mileage or low oil life trigger. Upon occurrence of a trigger, the notification system builds and sends to the subscriber an email message that contains the dynamic vehicle information and identifies any detected vehicle condition for which action is needed.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2006Date of Patent: August 6, 2019Assignee: GENERAL MOTORS LLCInventors: Shane McCutchen, Neelie A. Kapral, Chester A. Huber, Christopher L. Oesterling, John J. Correia, Walter A. Dorfstatter, Fahd Laghrari, Steven Samolinski

Publication number: 20140302774Abstract: Computer-implemented methods, systems and apparatus are provided for sharing information between a group of vehicles that includes a first vehicle and one or more other vehicles. Each of the vehicles includes an onboard computer system that includes a computer processor, a receiver, a transmitter, and a tangible, non-transitory computer-readable storage medium. The storage medium stores instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform various acts. In accordance with the method, an onboard computer at the first vehicle generates information and automatically communicates that information to the other vehicles of the group of vehicles. Upon receiving this information at each of the other vehicles, the information can be processed at the onboard computers of each of the other vehicles, and then presented via human machine interfaces that are disposed within or inside each of the other vehicles.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2013Publication date: October 9, 2014Applicant: GENERAL MOTORS LLCInventors: Denis BURKE, Keith Fry, Daniel RUDMAN, Shane MCCUTCHEN, Matthew HOVEY

Patent number: 8386115Abstract: A vehicle email notification system and method in which templates are used to automatically generate email messages that provide the recipient with diverse types of dynamic vehicle information. The email notifications are triggered by different events, some of which are independent of the vehicle (e.g., a monthly trigger), and others of which occur at the vehicle, such as a mileage or low oil life trigger. The notification system selects an appropriate template based on the type of trigger and uses that template to build and send to the subscriber an email message that contains the dynamic vehicle information and identifies any detected vehicle condition for which action is needed. In addition to trigger type, different templates can be defined for each combination of vehicle type (e.g., make of vehicle), trigger type, and a language preference (e.g., English, Spanish).Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2006Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: General Motors LLCInventors: Shane McCutchen, Mark D. Patent number: 7480550Abstract: A vehicle email notification system and method that accesses data from the vehicle as well as from one or more other sources and combines the information into an email that is then sent to the owner or other authorized subscriber. The email notifications are triggered by different events, some of which are independent of the vehicle (e.g., a monthly trigger), and others of which occur at the vehicle, such as a mileage or low oil life trigger. The notification system builds and sends to the subscriber an email message that contains the dynamic vehicle information and identifies any detected vehicle condition for which action is needed.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2006Date of Patent: January 20, 2009Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Chester A.
