  • Publication number: 20230414695
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and compositions comprising from about 0.00001 wt % to about 100 wt % of an extract derived from sugar cane for use in a variety of treatments, preventatives and control measures involving administration of an extract comprising from about 10 catechin equivalent (CE) g/L to about 50 CE g/L of polyphenols or from about 100 CE mg/g to about 500 CE mg/g of polyphenols to a subject. These treatments and preventative measures include antimicrobial activity, especially against respiratory viruses in humans as well as treatments for microsporidial infections, such as EHP in shrimps and prawns. Control measures include the reduction of methane generation in ruminants. Use of these compositions, for example in dairy cows, improves the health of the cows by minimizing mastitis whilst enhancing milk yield.

  • Publication number: 20230157342
Abstract: This application relates to polyphenol containing sugar cane extracts for improving or masking taste or mouthfeel of consumables containing a sugar substitute, low sugar consumables or reduced sugar consumables. The polyphenol containing sugar cane extracts can be used in methods for improving or masking the taste of consumables containing a sugar substitute, low sugar consumables or reduced sugar consumables by including an effective amount of a polyphenol containing sugar cane extract in the consumable. The polyphenol containing sugar cane extracts can also be used in compositions for improving or masking the taste of a sugar substitute by including an effective amount of a polyphenol containing sugar cane extract in the composition.

  • Publication number: 20230117773
Abstract: Portable biosurveillance kits for sequencing and sample identification are provided, and techniques for configuring said kits are provided. A system for configuring a kit may receive data representing a first and second set of nucleic acid sequences, and may generate and store first and second indexes representing the respective sets. The system may then use the indexes to identify conserved-signature sequences that satisfy abundance criteria with respect to the first set and sparsity criteria with respect to the second set. The identified conserved-signature sequences may be stored on (or represented in storage on) a portable sequencing and sample-identification kit, which may compare the conserved-signature sequence to a sample sequence in order to identify the sample sequence.
