  • Patent number: 11494882
Abstract: An image capture system comprises a camera configured to capture an image of a whiteboard, or similar, viewed from an acute angle. A linear polarizer has a surface substantially perpendicular to a plane of the board and an axis of polarization substantially perpendicular to the plane of the board or within 30° of the perpendicular to the plane of the board. The camera is configured to capture the image of the board through the polarizer. A normal to the polarizer is directed in a different direction to a direction defined by an optic axis of the camera.

  • Patent number: 10540755
Abstract: A method of capturing writing or drawing on a whiteboard comprises inputting camera data for a succession of image frames of the whiteboard, and processing data from said image frames to remove parts of the image frames corresponding to parts of a user or user pen writing or drawing on the whiteboard. The processing involves filtering to distinguish between i) motion of the user/user pen parts in the image frames, and ii) writing/drawing image information in the image frames which appears or changes during said writing or drawing but which is thereafter substantially unchanging. The filtered data defines captured writing or drawing from the whiteboard.

  • Publication number: 20180040111
Abstract: We describe a method of capturing writing or drawing on a whiteboard. The method comprises: inputting camera data for a succession of image frames, wherein the camera data is from a camera directed towards the whiteboard and the image frames comprise successive images of the whiteboard from the camera; and user filter processing data from said image frames to remove parts of said image frames corresponding to parts of a user or user pen writing or drawing on said whiteboard. The user-filter processing comprises filtering to distinguish between motion of the user/user pen parts in the image frames and writing/drawing image information in the image frames which appears or changes during said writing or drawing but which is thereafter substantially unchanging. The method outputs writing/drawing data from the user filter-processing, this defining captured writing or drawing from the whiteboard.

  • Patent number: 8147099
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for receiving light from one or more light sources, each of which comprises a substantially point-like light source. The received light is them emitted over an extended surface area including a first surface of an optical controller arranged to refract light received from at least one light source, a second surface of the optical controller arranged to reflect the light received from the first surface of the optical controller, the first surface and the second surface being arranged with respect to each other to enable total internal reflection of the light reflected from the at least one light surface, and a plurality of reflection elements located within the optical controller arranged to alter the path of the light traversing the optical controller so as to direct light out of the optical controller.

  • Publication number: 20070139611
Abstract: Apparatus and a corresponding method for the diagnosis and alleviation of symptoms of visually induced physiological defects and/or pathological conditions is provided. A plurality of narrow-band light sources are combined to constitute a colour controllable lamp. A method for adjusting the settings of this lamp permits the optimum illumination for a particular subject to be found, whilst the latter carries out a task such as reading or writing. By use of the lamp to simulate the expected visual stimulus, to which the subject would be exposed if provided with viewing aids such as tinted spectacles and the like, an optimal selection from a database of such aids may be made or a new formulation defined. Inter alia, the symptoms of visual dyslexia, macular degeneration and visually induced migraine may be alleviated.

  • Patent number: 6594051
Abstract: A docking apparatus for a plurality of hand-held computers having optical data ports is provided. The docking apparatus includes a plurality of docking bays, a central processing unit, an optical transmitting communication path connected to the central processing unit for transmitting data to the docking bays, and an optical receiving communication path connected to the central processing unit for receiving data from the docking bays. The transmitting and receiving communication paths include light guides adapted to carry the data between the central processing unit and the data port of each computer in its respective docking bay.

  • Patent number: 5847754
Abstract: A high resolution film scanner or telecine uses a microlithographic diffuser laminate (24) arranged adjacent the film. The diffuser diffuses a collimated light beam produced from a light source and the optics of a film scanner or telecine. This type of diffuser is inexpensive, yet produces a more uniformly distributed light intensity and aids in the reduction in visibility of surface imperfections such as scratches on the scanned film.
