  • Publication number: 20070014862
Abstract: A hemostatic agent comprises oxidized cellulose in the form of a compressible, shapeable mass that can remain substantially in the compressed or shaped form for placement on a bleed site or into a wound gap. The oxidized cellulose may be a pellet of unwoven oxidized cellulose fibrous strands, or it may be strands of unwoven cellulose fibers woven or otherwise arranged into a gauze or mesh. In a method of causing hemostasis, oxidized cellulose is provided in pellet form and applied to a wound gap. The pellet may be compressed before being applied to the wound, which thereby allows the pellet to expand to conform to the shape of the wound gap. The pellet may be allowed to remain in the wound gap during the healing of the wound, thus causing the pellet to be absorbed by the biological processes of the body.

  • Publication number: 20060110705
Abstract: A dental bite block that is V-shaped. The V-shape provides accessibility to working instruments while in a patients mouth. Current bite blocks are often shaped as solid triangles that are designed to keep the mouth open. A bite block is usually placed by dentists in the side opposite their work area. This provides an open work area for the dentist on one side, but restricts access by dental assistants on the other. The device provides an open V-shaped design that is accessible to dental instruments while maintaining the patients mouth open.

  • Publication number: 20060078589
Abstract: A device for treating oral wounds that form a gap and hence too large to suture. The device is intended to fill the resulting wound gap and upon contact with bleeding tissues cause local hemostasis. The device will remain in and protect the wound gap during the healing process. The coagulum plug that is created by this device will eventually heal over as permanent soft tissue and the embedded device removed by the physiological processes of the body. The device is in the shape of a compressible pellet that is packed in the wound gap to help increase retention by exerting an outward pressure. An embodiment of this device is an oxidized cellulose pellet.
