  • Patent number: 7768886
Abstract: A method for detecting a utilization status of an optical disc is disclosed. The method includes: accessing the optical disc to generate a radio frequency signal; generating an estimated blank signal according to the radio frequency signal; generating a first reference signal to indicate a DC level of the radio frequency signal according to the radio frequency signal; and detecting a true overwrite area of the optical disc according to said blank signal and the first reference signal.

  • Publication number: 20090059740
Abstract: An optical recording apparatus for recording data to an optical storage medium. An optical pickup unit emits a light beam to a recording region of the optical storage medium, and receives the light beam reflected from the recording region. A sled mechanism moves the optical pickup unit in a predetermined direction. A processor obtains a boundary between a recorded region and an unrecorded region on the optical storage medium according to the reflected light beam, and obtains a recording address corresponding to the unrecorded region next to the boundary.

  • Patent number: 7459660
Abstract: A light emitting device calibration system includes a device under test including a light emitting device to be calibrated and a microprocessor electrically coupled to the light emitting device. A light detector is coupled to the device under test. During a calibration mode, the microprocessor controls power of the light emitting device by changing values of a drive signal to the light emitting device, receives a power indication corresponding to light emitted by the light emitting device, and determines a power relationship relating values of the drive signal to powers of the light emitting device according to a power indication for each of a plurality of values of the drive signal. The light detector coupled to the device under test detects the light emitted by the light emitting device to generate the power indication corresponding to the light emitted by the light emitting device.

  • Patent number: 7161886
Abstract: A method used in an optical disc reproducing system for identifying the type of an optical disc, wherein the optical disc reproducing system comprises a pickup; the pickup comprising a first light source and a second light source. The method comprises: (a) measuring a first time needed for the focus of the first light source to move from a plastic layer to a reflection layer of the optical disc; (b) measuring the characteristics of a focus error signal while the focus of the first light source is moving in the reflection layer of the optical disc; (c) measuring the characteristics of the focus error signal while the focus of the second light source is moving in the reflection layer of the optical disc; and (d) identifying the type of the optical disc according to the first time and the results measured in steps (b) and (c).

  • Publication number: 20060077823
Abstract: A method of automatic light emitting device calibration includes providing an optical device having a light emitting device and a photo monitor; controlling power of the light emitting device by changing values of a drive signal to the light emitting device; detecting light emitted by the light emitting device and generating a monitor signal having a value corresponding to the light emitted by the light emitting device utilizing the photo monitor; and determining a preliminary power relationship relating values of the drive signal to powers of the light emitting device according to received monitor signal values for a plurality of drive signal values and a predetermined conversion rule for converting the received monitor signal values to corresponding powers of the light emitting device. A final power relationship is generated by performing a power relationship correction operation to ensure test data is written to an optical medium at a particular power.
