  • Patent number: 7512846
Abstract: A method and the apparatus of defect areas management includes the steps as following: reading a defect area table in a random access memory; if the area is readable, then read the area. If the area is not accessible, then label and add one count in the defect area table of inability to read of the defect area, and else if the count of inability to read of the defect area is more than a predetermined value, then the defect area is defined as the area of being not to be read again. Then the defect area of being not to be read again is skipped and not to be read the next time in order to decrease the total access time.

  • Patent number: 7453557
Abstract: A temperature compensating method and apparatus uses a front sensor to measure a first power of a light-emitting unit emitting a light, and a thermal sensor to measure the temperature of the light-emitting unit. The temperature is inputted into an I/O unit to figure out a second power from the equations of the temperature and power. Then, the first and second powers are inputted into a controller to adjust the power of the light-emitting unit, or the second powers are inputted into a write strategy to change an output clock to adjust the energy of the light without changing the power of the light-emitting unit. The optical disc device has the effect of the temperature compensation.

  • Publication number: 20070047404
Abstract: An auxiliary track seeking method includes detecting a deviation signal corresponding to a positional difference between a fine actuator and a coarse actuator; judging a track seek direction; determining if the deviation signal is greater than a deviation threshold value; detecting whether a number of times of applying a voltage pulse is less than a predetermined number; applying the voltage pulse to push the coarse actuator and thereby adjust the deviation signal toward the deviation threshold value, a time duration and an amplitude of the voltage pulse being predetermined as fixed or variable; accumulating the number of times of applying the voltage pulse; repetitively exerting the voltage pulse until the deviation signal value reaches the deviation threshold value; and resetting the accumulated number of times of exerting the voltage pulse to zero and then ending the tracking seeking to thereby reduce track seeking failures.
