  • Patent number: 11985004
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for reducing WAN bandwidth consumption used by multicast for large scale software-defined branch deployments. In particular, a cloud-based multicast orchestrator may be implemented as part of an SD-WAN service. This cloud-based multicast orchestrator may orchestrate routes for multicast traffic between a multicast source and the various branches of the large scale software-defined branch deployment. This cloud-based multicast orchestrator may orchestrate routes for multicast traffic which reduce/optimize WAN bandwidth consumption. In combination with the cloud-based multicast orchestrator, examples may utilize a branch gateway hierarchy which designates one branch gateway a “leader” for a given multicast stream to further reduce WAN bandwidth consumption used by multicast.

  • Publication number: 20240022443
Abstract: Examples described herein relate to a centralized overlay multicast orchestrator in a software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN). The overlay multicast orchestrator receives and maintains state information from multicast agents deployed on overlay network nodes. Based on the state information, the overlay multicast orchestrator identifies a first set of overlay network nodes connected to a source and a second set of overlay network nodes connected to hosts requesting a multicast stream. The overlay multicast orchestrator computes and distributes a multicast tree representing a path for transmission of the multicast stream to the requesting hosts.

  • Patent number: 10257162
Abstract: A method is implemented by a border network gateway for enabling an end user device to access home network resources and receive subscriber services in a visited network. The method includes receiving a connection from the end user device, querying an authentication server to obtain a virtual extended local area network (VXLAN) network identifier (VNI) of the end user device, and checking for the VNI for the end user device in a demultiplexor table of the border network gateway. The process further involves determining whether the end user device is in a home network of the end user device and updating an entry in the demultiplexor table to include a media access control address for the end user device in response to determining the end user device is not in the home network of the end user device.

  • Patent number: 9167543
Abstract: A method includes subsequent to a client associating with a first access node and the client being communicatively coupled with a first controller through the first access node: storing information on one or more of: active broadcast sessions for the client or active multicast sessions for the client. The method further includes subsequent to the client associating with a second access node and the client being communicatively coupled with a second controller through the second access node: the second controller establishing one or more of: the active broadcast sessions for the client or the active multicast sessions for the client using the information.

  • Patent number: 8520580
Abstract: Synchronization of mobile multicast membership in a wireless network. A controller supports one or more wireless access points, each of which supports wireless clients. A Mobility Manager (MM) in the controller monitors wireless client activity. The controller establishes an IGMP proxy which intercepts IGMP messages from wireless clients and handles the IGMP messages on clients' behalf. When a wireless client wishes to join a multicast, the client's IGMP join message is intercepted by the controller IGMP proxy, and the controller IGMP proxy joins the multicast for the client. The Mobility Manager observes the actions of the IGMP proxy. If a client moves from its home agent (HA) controller to a different foreign agent (FA) controller, the Mobility Manager in the FA controller locates the Mobility Manager in the HA controller and receives information on the client including information on any multicast streams the client is receiving.
