    Abstract: An ad configuration that works well (or best) for a given document or a given type of document is determined and/or used. For example, advertisements having different advertisement configurations may be served with different instances of a given document of a document type. Performance of the different advertisement configurations for at least one of the given document and document type may be tracked. A preferred advertisement configuration for at least one of the given document and document type may then be determined using the tracked performance of the different advertisement configurations. Finally, the determined preferred advertisement configuration may be associated with the at least one of a given document and document type. Once such an association has been determined (or accepted), document information of a document to be provided with advertisements may be accepted, and a document type of the document may be determined using the document information.
