  • Patent number: 7439843
Abstract: A transformer includes at least two magnetically coupled cores with a common axis. The cores have cross sectional configurations transverse to the common axis which are not rectangular. An exciting voltage is to be applied across a first winding provided on one of the cores. A second winding provided on one of the cores includes first and second terminals across which a voltage is to be induced in response to the exciting voltage. A first device provides a relatively higher impedance between the first and second terminals of the second winding. The first device is coupled between the first and second terminals. Third, fourth and fifth windings have respective first and second terminals. The third and fourth windings are wound on one of the cores with a first polarity. The fifth winding is wound on one of the cores with a second polarity opposite to the first polarity.

  • Patent number: 5021714
Abstract: A circuit for starting and operating fluorescent lamps from an a-c low frequency power source includes a reactive ballast means connected to ballast the lamps and having a non-linear characteristic for producing a plurality of harmonics of the power source frequency, and a capacitor and a cathode heating transformer connected in series and connected to receive power from said ballast means and resonant in a frequency range encompassing a plurality of said harmonics. This resonant voltage is applied across the lamps to aid the starting of their discharge and thereafter the lamps operate at the a-c power source frequency. The aforesaid resonance frequency range preferably is broad enough to encompass several harmonics of the power source frequency, for example the third through the ninth harmonics (180 to 540 Hz for a source frequency of 80 Hz). Preferably a switch is connected in series with the capacitor and cathode heating transformer for opening the cathode heating circuit when the lamps are operating.

  • Patent number: 4616314
Abstract: A data receiver is described that includes a microcomputer that is coupled to a self-clocking asynchronous data bus. The data bus includes three signal lines TDATA, CDATA and RDATA. Bits of a data block are detected by a first exclusive-OR gate that is coupled to the TDATA and CDATA lines. An interrupt control signal and the output of the first exclusive-OR gate are coupled to a second exclusive-OR gate that generates an interrupt signal. The interrupt signal is coupled to the interrupt input of the receiving microcomputer. The receiving microcomputer is interrupted in response to a data bit and then changes the binary state of the interrupt control signal for producing an interrupt for the idle state between data bits. Upon being interrupted by the idle state between data bits, the receiving microcomputer changes the binary state of the interrupt control signal for producing an interrupt for the next data bit and also applies a bit of return data to the RDATA line.
