  • Publication number: 20230338177
Abstract: A hip orthosis for a leg of a user including a hip shell removably attached to a flexible waistband by one or more flexible straps, the hip shell being configured to flex when tightened. A first push button for hip adjustment of abduction and adduction is between the hip shell and a hip hinge assembly having a push button release of locking pins for setting flexion and extension movement of the leg. A second push button is positioned below the first push button and the hinge assembly for hip adjustment of abduction and adduction between the hip hinge assembly and a thigh support unit which is attached to a leg adjuster extended downward from the hip hinge assembly.

  • Patent number: 11723787
Abstract: Our design provides a moderate control of abduction and adduction without requiring tools. This can be accomplished with a first push button 5, shown in FIG. 1, for a hip adjustment of both abduction and adduction between a hip shell 2 and a hip hinge assembly that provides release of locking pins for setting the flexion and extension movement of the user's leg. A second push button 6 provides abduction and adduction between the hip hinge assembly 1 and a thigh supporting unit. To facilitate an initial vertical adjustment, we provide a flexible plastic spacer 7 with circular openings extending through the spacer between the leg adjuster and the upper thigh support pad. The flexible plastic spacer 7 enables an initial adhesion between the hook and nap material through openings in the flexible plastic spacer 7.

  • Publication number: 20120289878
Abstract: An orthosis for supporting a body portion of a user, for example, a hip joint or spine that has been compromised, can utilize an adjustable extension unit that can be appropriately secured, for example, to anchor locations on the body between the waist and a thigh of the patient. A body support unit with a compliable support surface can conform to a body surface part of the user, such as the leg, while being movably mounted across the adjustable extension unit between the anchor locations. The adjustable extension unit can include a pair of telescoping elongated members that are relatively movable and both the body support unit and the collective length of the telescoping elongated members can be adjusted and fastened at a desired location by activation of a control member.

  • Publication number: 20100318010
Abstract: A spinal orthosis provides a lightweight posterior spinal member with a pair of flexible strap members removably attached at the top of the spinal member and secured and anchored at the bottom. Flexible straps form not only the shoulder straps but also contribute an adjustably fastening arrangement of smaller loops with connecting straps to abdominal pads. The abdominal pads can be fastened together and fastening pads can both secure and tighten the brace on the patient by pulling the flexible straps.

  • Patent number: 7473235
Abstract: The present invention provides a universally applicable orthosis such as a hip orthosis and includes a semi-rigid hip engaging unit that can be easily bent for attachment to a user's waist. A semi-rigid thigh support member is also easily bent for attachment to either the right or the left thigh of a user. A closure unit enables the user to provide a compressive force on the waist with a mechanical force advantage. The hinge unit extends between the hip engaging unit and the thigh unit to stabilize the limit of the extension and rotation of the thigh relative to the waist of the user. Although the waist engaging unit and the thigh support member are relatively flexible when they bend about the user, they are structured to become rigid to provide stable anchor points for the hinge unit.

  • Patent number: 7306571
Abstract: An orthosis can comprise a first body member that can conform to a portion of a patient's body and a second body member that can conform to another portion of a patient's body. A closure unit having a first connector member with a first plurality of support posts can be operatively connected to the first body member, while a second connector member with a second plurality of support posts can be operatively connected to the second body member. An elongated flexible pull member can operatively extend between the respective first and second support posts so that when tightened by a patient, a pull member slides across the support posts to provide a mechanical force advantage to draw the first body member and the second body member against the patient's torso. A closure unit can be of a modular configuration for subjective mounting on various components of an orthosis to provide a highly adaptable closure unit.

  • Patent number: 7048707
Abstract: A hip orthosis includes a hip engaging unit that can be secured to the contours of a human hip. An appendant orthotic member is formed to extend diagonally about and to be fixed to a human appendage. A connector assembly, with a support plate with a curved configuration at an anchor location to permit adjustment, interconnects the hip engaging member and the appendant member and includes an articulated joint member to control flexion, extension, abduction and adduction. The joint members can include an adjustable linkage system extending across and connected to both sides of the articulated joint. A first link member can be adjusted in length to control the movement of the articulated joint.
