    Abstract: A film-forming composition that includes a stable aqueous dispersion of a mixture of a polyester polyol and a carboxylic acid-containing acrylic polymer polyol and a crosslinking agent having functional groups reactive with hydroxyl groups. The weight ratio of polyester polyol to acrylic polymer polyol is in the range of 10:90 to 30:70. The crosslinking agent is one or more blocked isocyanates or aminoplasts. The equivalent ratio of hydroxyl groups to reactive functional groups on the crosslinking agent is from 0.8:1 to 1.7:1. The film forming composition can be used in multi-layer composite coating compositions that include a base coat layer and a substantially pigment-free topcoat deposited over at least a portion of the base coat layer, the topcoat composition including the present film-forming composition.

    Abstract: A waterborne film-forming composition is provided that includes a stable aqueous dispersion of a mixture of a polyester polyol and a carboxylic acid-containing acrylic polymer polyol having a weight ratio of polyester polyol to acrylic polymer polyol in the range of 10:90 to 30:70; and a polyisocyanate crosslinking agent where the equivalent ratio of hydroxyl groups to isocyanate groups is from 0.8:1 to 1.7:1. The polyol component is prepared by polymerizing a mixture of ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers that includes at least one carboxylic acid group-containing monomer; at least one primary alcohol group-containing monomer; and at least one glycidyl ester of an aliphatic saturated monocarboxylic acid in the presence of at least one polyester polyol.     Abstract: A latex emulsion that includes crosslinked polymeric microparticles dispersed in an aqueous continuous phase. The microparticles are prepared from a monomer mix of a crosslinking monomer, a monomer having hydrophilic functional groups, and one or more other monomers. Also disclosed is a thermosetting composition that includes a first reactant that has reactive functional groups; a curing agent that has at least two functional groups reactive with the functional groups of the first reactant; and the latex emulsion of crosslinked polymeric microparticles dispersed in an aqueous continuous phase. The thermosetting composition may be used to coat a substrate. The coating may be a multi-layer composite coating that includes a base coat layer deposited from a pigmented film-forming base coat composition containing the thermosetting composition; and a substantially pigment free top coat layer deposited over a portion of the base coat layer from a substantially pigment free top coat composition.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a reaction product having polyether carbamate groups formed from (A) polyoxyalkylene amine, and (B) cyclic carbonate, in an equivalents ratio ranging from 1:0.5 to 1:1.5. The present invention also is directed to an improved curable coating composition including (1) a reactive functional group-containing polymer, and (2) a curing agent having functional groups reactive with the functional groups of (1), the improvement being the inclusion in the coating composition the reaction product.
