Patent number: 7371115Abstract: A mat seal device for preventing water from entering an electrical connector through an opening provided for cables to be inserted into the connector. The device includes an elastic mat that plugs an opening in the connector. A peripheral edge seal of the mat seals between the mat and an inner surface of the connector housing. Cable insertion holes receive cables into the connector and prevent moisture from passing through the holes around the cables received in those holes. Each cable insertion hole includes annular sealing ribs that elastically enlarge when receiving a cable and seal against an outer surface of the cable. Recesses formed in front and back surfaces of the mat adjacent the cable insertion holes relieve expansion of the sealing ribs.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2006Date of Patent: May 13, 2008Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Shao C. Hsieh, Michael Bashkin

Patent number: 6837751Abstract: An electrical connector utilizing a plurality of terminals to which wires have been ultrasonically welded, most preferably via UWTI technology, wherein the terminals are aligned for the welding process and also aligned in the connector via one or more terminal carriers. Terminals are placed into respective seats in two terminal carriers, and wires are then ultrasonically welded to the terminals. The terminal carriers are then superposed and placed into a connector body of the electrical connector. The ultrasonic welding process is implemented by an anvil passing through an aperture in the terminal carriers at each terminal so that it is able to sonically and pressurably co-act with the tip of the ultrasonic welding apparatus to thereby effect an ultrasonic weld of the wire(s) to the respective terminals, preferably through the insulation thereof.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2002Date of Patent: January 4, 2005Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Mark J. Vanden Wymelenberg, Shao C. Hsieh, Edward M. Bungo

Patent number: 6692316Abstract: A high current terminal blade connection system adapted for automotive environments, which provides environmental sealing includes a female connector and a male connector. The male connector includes a male power terminal having a contact blade and a means for connecting a power cable thereto. The female connector includes a female power terminal with a terminal blade seat for contactibly receiving the contact blade of the respective male power terminal. A contact insert is inserted within the female terminal and is the direct receiver of the male terminal contact blade. The contact insert includes dimples to provide stability and additional contact points to improve the electrical performance of the connection, and contact vanes to accept the mating male terminal blade for an in-line and right angle direction termination with the mating terminal blade. This design allows one female terminal and one contact insert for two different mating directions, thus eliminating the need for any additional parts.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2002Date of Patent: February 17, 2004Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Shao C. Hsieh, Mark D. McCall, Michael C. Wolczak

Patent number: 6485337Abstract: An electrical connector utilizing two elongated terminals each having dual contact blades extending laterally from an elongated support section forming a U-shaped cross section. A recess for each terminal is defined by the respective dual contact blades and support sections The first blade of the dual blades for the first terminal mates within the recess of the second terminal and the first blade of the dual blades for the second terminal mates within the recess of the first terminal. A laterally bisected S-shaped insert device engages electrically between the blades of the terminals. The insert device comprises a first and a second member each having a series of inward bent ribs for engaging the adjacent blades. The ribs extend in the same direction as the mating movement of the opposing terminal. An arrangement of tangs and prongs of each member hold and lock the insert device within the recesses by engaging the leading and trailing edges of the blades of each terminal.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2001Date of Patent: November 26, 2002Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Shao C.
