  • Patent number: 5480954
Abstract: Allyl ester copolymers with allylic alcohols and propoxylated allylic alcohols are disclosed. The high hydroxyl group content and favorable solubility characteristics make the allyl ester copolymers easy to formulate into many polymer products, including polyurethanes, polyesters, melamines, alkyds, uralkyds, and other thermoset polymers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 21, 1994
Date of Patent: January 2, 1996
    Assignee: ARCO Chemical Technology, L.P.
    Inventor: Shao-Hua Guo
  • Patent number: 5475073
Abstract: Low-molecular-weight, hydroxy-functional acrylate resins are disclosed. The resins are copolymers derived from an allylic alcohol or a propoxylated allylic alcohol, an acrylate or methacrylate monomer, and optionally, one or more additional ethylenic monomers. The resins are uniquely prepared without a chain-transfer agent or reaction solvent, and are useful in many thermoset polymer applications, including thermoset polyesters, polyurethanes, crosslinked polymeric resins, melamines, alkyds, uralkyds, and epoxy thermosets.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 18, 1994
Date of Patent: December 12, 1995
    Assignee: Arco Chemical Technology, L.P.
    Inventor: Shao-Hua Guo
  • Patent number: 5451631
Abstract: Copolymers of vinyl aromatic monomers and propoxylated allyl alcohols having an average of 2 or less oxypropylene groups are disclosed. The copolymers, which have hydroxyl numbers of 80-260 mg KOH/g and number average molecular weights from 500-3500, are particularly useful for polyurethanes, alkyd resins and coatings, melamine-based coatings, and unsaturated polyester resins.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 26, 1994
Date of Patent: September 19, 1995
    Assignee: ARCO Chemical Technology, L.P.

  • Patent number: 5451652
Abstract: Propoxylated allyl alcohol homopolymers and copolymers of allyl alcohol and propoxylated allyl alcohol are disclosed. The polymers are soluble in many organic solvents, making them useful in a variety of applications, including polyesters, polyurethanes, alkyds, uralkyds, polyamines, acrylates, crosslinked polymeric resins, and polymer blends.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5444141
Abstract: An improved process for making vinyl aromatic/allylic alcohol copolymers is disclosed. Gradual addition of a free-radical initiator during the course of the polymerization results in a substantial increase in the polymer yield obtained compared with the yield from conventional processes in which all of the free-radical initiator is charged initially. The process is particularly useful for making commercially important varieties of styrene-allyl alcohol copolymers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 6, 1994
Date of Patent: August 22, 1995
    Assignee: Arco Chemical Technology, L.P.

  • Patent number: 5420216
Abstract: An improved process for making allyl polymers and copolymers is disclosed. Conversions of the allyl monomers are substantially increased by adding the free-radical initiator gradually during the polymerization. The process is particularly useful for making polymers and copolymers from common allyl monomers such as allyl alcohol, allyl acetate, and propoxylated allyl alcohol.

  • Patent number: 5328958
Abstract: Thermoplastic resins of the invention are reaction products of vinyl aromatic/vinyl phosphonic acid copolymers and amine-terminated polymers. The flexible products, which contain ammonium linkages, are surprisingly transparent, and are useful for packaging, as fire-retardant polymers or polymer additives, and as polymer compatibilizers.
