  • Publication number: 20100284050
Abstract: An N-nary photonic transistor (PT) based on a heterojunction optical semiconductor microstructure is presented. The PT has one control signal input, one data signal input, and one output. The lights for each input can be one of the wavelengths within the N number (N-nary) of predetermined lightwaves. The output light of the PT is determined by the inputs in accordance with the switching function of the PT. The PT can be used to construct either N-nary digital logic gates or binary Boolean logic gates. For the N-nary system, both the wavelength domain and intensity domain of the lights are used which forms a two dimensional logic system. An optical AND gate, which can be used as either N-nary or binary, is constructed using the current photonic transistor, which is also presented herein.

  • Publication number: 20090150591
Abstract: The interface device is interposed between a switched-packet network and the bus of a computer. The interface device de-packets and de-compresses HD video data from the network, and places the de-packeted and de-compressed HD video data stream on the computer bus, ready for display. The interface device also compresses and packets HD video data from a video source and transmits the compressed and packetized HD video data to a packet network. The operations involving manipulation of the video data, including the packeting/de-packeting and compressing/de-compressing operations, are done, in the interface device, by hardware. The interface device enables an under-four GHz PC to carry out real-time two-way HD video communications.

  • Publication number: 20080144642
Abstract: A residential gateway (RG) for distributing multimedia services to residential and business premises is disclosed. The RG connects multiple communication devices, such as TVs, telephones, computers, security cameras, and utility billing devices, to an Ethernet based metro/access network through either an optic fiber or a coaxial cable. The RG multiplexes upstream data from various communication devices into Ethernet frames according to the said Fixed-bandwidth Multimedia to Ethernet (FibME) protocol, and transmit the Ethernet frames through the link between the RG and the metro network. The RG also distributes the downstream data from the metro network to their corresponding destination devices in real time, also according to the said FibME protocol. The default bandwidth between the residential premise and the metro network is 100 Mbps full duplex. One Gbps or ten Gbps can be implemented based on the same FibME protocol for business applications.

  • Patent number: 6778303
Abstract: An architecture for optical logic gates is presented in which N predetermined wavelengths of light are used to define data. This data is manipulated by N-valued optical logic gates based on a set of rules referred to as Song's switching algebra. The gates when connected end to end to produce optical circuits such as optical random access memory or an optical arithmetic logic unit.

  • Patent number: 6647163
Abstract: An optical memory suitable for storing optical signals from a set of predetermined wavelengths is demonstrated. This memory is random access, allowing a controller to read the stored data at any point in time. The memory has a memory input port for receiving a first optical signal, an optical storage element for storing an optical signal and its predetermined wavelength. The optical storage element features a set of optical sources each having a predetermined wavelength and is for providing an intensity and a wavelength of light stored therein. The optical memory also has a memory output port which is optically coupled to the optical storage element for selectively providing an output signal based on the wavelength and intensity of the light within the optical storage element.
