  • Patent number: 6207171
Abstract: A soluble polyphosphazene polyelectrolyte immunoadjuvant is disclosed. In one embodiment, the polymeric adjuvant is poly[di(carboxylatrophenoxy)phosphazene] which is in the form of a microsphere and which is adsorbed with antigen after formation of the microsphere. The immunoadjuvant can be administered intranasally.

Date of Patent: March 27, 2001
    Assignee: Avant Immunotherapeutics, Inc.
Inventors: Lendon G. Payne, Angela L. Woods, Sharon A. Jenkins
  • Patent number: 5958414
Abstract: The present invention relates to a therapeutic composition to protect a mammal from B. henselae infection that includes an isolated B. henselae antigen and an adjuvant comprising a phosphazene polymer. Also included is a method to use such a therapeutic composition to protect a mammal from B. henselae infection. One embodiment is a method to protect a human from cat scratch disease by administering such a therapeutic composition to a domestic cat in contact with the human. The present invention also includes a method to produce such a therapeutic composition.

Inventors: Russell L. Regnery, Jane A. Rooney, Sharon A. Jenkins
  • Patent number: 5891444
Abstract: A composition and method for inducing a protective immune response to HIV-1 in an individual, of (a) a replication incompetent HIV-1, HIV-1 pseudovirus, HIV-1 VLP or oligomeric gp120; and (b) a water soluble polyphosphazene polyelectrolyte, wherein (a) and (b) are present in an amount effective to induce a protective immune response against HIV-1.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 7, 1995
Date of Patent: April 6, 1999
    Assignee: Virus Research Institute, Inc.
Inventors: Sharon Jenkins, Yichen Lu, Lendon Payne, Bryan Roberts
  • Patent number: 5529777
Abstract: Water soluble polymers or polymeric hydrogels are used to encapsulate antigen to form vaccines. The antigen is mixed with a polymer solution, microparticles are formed of the polymer and antigen, and, optionally, the polymer is crosslinked to form a stable microparticle. Preferred polymers are alginate and polyphosphazenes, and mixtures thereof. Microparticles can be adminstered parenterally or mucosally. For oral delivery, the microparticles are preferably fifteen microns or less in diameter, and adhere to the mucosal lining of the gastrointestinal tract, increasing uptake by the reticuloendothelium.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 4, 1993
Date of Patent: June 25, 1996
    Assignee: Virus Research Institute
Inventors: Alexander K. Andrianov, Sharon A. Jenkins, Lendon G. Payne, Bryan E. Roberts
  • Patent number: 5494673
Abstract: An immunoadjuvant soluble polyphosphazene polyelectrolyte is disclosed. In one embodiment, the polymeric adjuvant is an poly(organophosphazene) with (i) ionized or ionizable pendant groups that contain, for example, carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid, or hydroxyl moieties, and (ii) pendant groups that are susceptible to hydrolysis under the conditions of use, to impart biodegradability to the polymer.
