  • Patent number: 8683790
Abstract: A diffuser for aiding in the vaporization and mixing of an injected reactant with the exhaust gas feed stream of an exhaust gas aftertreatment system is disclosed. The diffuser is disposed within an exhaust gas conduit of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system and has an impingement surface and a baffle plate disposed downstream of and adjacent thereto. The baffle plate extends outwardly from the diffuser, to terminate at a baffle plate tip that is located intermediate of the diffuser and an inner wall of the exhaust gas conduit. The baffle plate is operable to trap a portion of an exhaust gas feed stream, and a reactant resident therein, to increase the vaporization and residence time of the reactant in the exhaust gas feed stream.

  • Patent number: 8209979
Abstract: Simultaneous or independent control of a by-pass valve and a variable-geometry forced induction component on a combustion engine is based on operational parameters measured by various sensors provided as inputs to a control module. Sudden loss of power due to low turbine efficiencies is prevented during transitions between operating conditions of engine speed and load. Excessive peak cylinder pressures are also prevented by controlling engine boost pressure to a permitted limit at high engine speed and load.

  • Patent number: 8132407
Abstract: An EGR system compensates for differing EGR flows and/or exhaust temperatures and can maintain the cooler exit temperature above the critical temperature, thereby reducing the possibility of EGR cooler fouling. A plurality of exhaust gas recirculation cooler modules is disposed between an exhaust gas passage and an air passage. The cooler modules receive exhaust gas from the exhaust gas passage and supply the received exhaust gas to the air passage for recirculation into an intake manifold. Each of the cooler modules includes a cooler portion, a bypass portion, and a flow control device. The cooler portion and the bypass portion are arranged such that fluid flowing through the cooler portion and the bypass portion flows therethrough without flowing through the other of the cooler portion and the bypass portion. The cooler portion reduces a temperature of the fluid flowing through the cooler portion.

  • Publication number: 20040138255
Abstract: The invention relates to trifluoromethyl sulfonyl and trifluoromethyl sulfonamido compounds and the physiologically acceptable salts and the prodrugs thereof. These compounds are expected to modulate the activity of protein tyrosine enzymes which are related to cellular signal transduction, in particular, protein tyrosine phosphatase, and therefore are expected to be useful in the prevention and treatment of disorders associated with abnormal protein tyrosine enzyme related cellular signal transduction such as cancer, diabetes, immuno-modulation, neurologic degenerative diseases, osteoporosis and infectious diseases. The invention also relates to the use of compounds containing fluoromethyl sulfonyl groups as phosphate mimics. These mimics may be used to inhibit, regulate or modulate the activity of a phosphate binding protein in a cell.
