Abstract: Exemplary embodiments of this invention provide a reduction in signaling overhead by allocating radio resources to subscriber stations (SSs) based on a group of connection identifiers (CIDs), where the group corresponds to a plurality of connections. The use of these exemplary embodiments can be particularly beneficial for certain applications, such as voice over internet protocol (VoIP) applications, by removing unnecessary signaling overhead. In one exemplary embodiment of the invention, a method includes: receiving signaling that assigns a subscriber station to a particular group of subscriber stations or that removes an already assigned subscriber station from the particular group of subscriber stations; and transmitting an acknowledgment that confirms receipt of the signaling.
