  • Patent number: 4524105
Abstract: There is disclosed a melt-spun acrylonitrile polymer fiber of improved dye intensity and reduced shade change due to hot-wet processing.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 14, 1980
Date of Patent: June 18, 1985
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: William E. Streetman, Shashikumar H. Daftary
  • Patent number: 4421707
Abstract: By adjusting the viscosity of the spinning solution, low molecular weight polymers of acrylonitrile can be spun to provide useful fiber having an unexpected higher dye color yield than fiber prepared from the corresponding polymer of higher molecular weight.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 29, 1982
Date of Patent: December 20, 1983
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: Raymond E. Kourtz, Shashikumar H. Daftary
  • Patent number: 4418176
Abstract: A self-crimping, melt-spun acrylonitrile polymer fiber comprising as the continuous fiber matrix a first polymer comprising from about 80 to about 99 weight percent acrylonitrile and from about 1 to about 20 weight percent of one or more monomers copolymerizable with acrylonitrile and heterogeneously dispersed within said fiber matrix a second polymer incompatible with said first polymer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 2, 1981
Date of Patent: November 29, 1983
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: William E. Streetman, Shashikumar H. Daftary

  • Patent number: 4255532
Abstract: A combination of a major amount of acrylonitrile and a minor amount of another monomer copolymerizable with acrylonitrile when grafted onto polyvinyl alcohol provides an improved acrylonitrile polymer for preparing fiber by extruding a fusion melt of such polymer and water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 21, 1979
Date of Patent: March 10, 1981
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
    Inventor: Shashikumar H. Daftary
  • Patent number: 4205039
Abstract: Spinning of a melt of water and an acrylonitrile polymer containing hydrophobic moieties through a spinnerette into a steam-pressurized solidification zone results in improved fiber when the amount of water in the melt is in the lower half of the range necessary to provide the melt under the conditions of extrusion, the amount of hydrophilic moieties contained in the polymer are sufficient to control the rate of release of water from the extrudate, the steam conditions in the solidification are sufficient to prevent formation of a separate water phase, and drying of the resulting extrudate under conditions of temperature and humidity to remove water therefrom while avoiding formation of a separate water phase.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 12, 1978
Date of Patent: May 27, 1980
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: William E. Streetman, Shashikumar H. Daftary
