  • Patent number: 9710604
Abstract: Described are techniques governing the glycemic ranges that are applied and governed in the meter so the user is not required to understand or know the editing rules in order to use or set up the meter. These guiding principles will come into effect each time the user chooses to edit the ranges. There will be appropriate warning messages to inform the user if the user does not set the ranges correctly.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 9482635
Abstract: A glucose measurement system includes a display and a biosensor that provides a signal representative of a glucose level of a fluid sample. A processor determines glucose data values and a rate of change of blood glucose using the signal. The processor can determine a state band and a rate band using the values and rate, and display a state icon colored per the state band and a rate icon colored and shaped per the rate band. The processor does not display any other indication of the determined rate of change or of any of the stored glucose data values. The processor can also display a unified icon shaped per the rate of change, with a prevailing color determined using the values. The processor does not display any other indication of the determined rate of change or of any of the stored glucose data values. Corresponding methods are also described.

  • Publication number: 20140379360
Abstract: Described are methods and systems to allow persons with diabetes to determine the most optimal treatment for low blood glucose or hypoglycemia, which conditions affect each diabetic differently. Because each individual's body reacts differently to each of the treatment options proposed by the HCP, embodiments of this invention will allow the user to find the most effective treatment for hypoglycemia tailored to the particular user. This inventive solution helps them to remember the options that worked best, and over a period of time during operation of the invention learns to present only those options that work best.

  • Publication number: 20140379358
Abstract: A decision support system for a patient includes a storage device holding data of various insertion sites. Each site represents an area on a human body at which a medical device can be inserted into the body. Also stored are data indicative of sites that have been used by the patient. A processor determines whether various sites are recommended and indicates recommendations on a display. The processor receives a selection of a site and updates the stored data. The system can also determine recommendations for two different medical devices and update stored data indicative of the used sites for one of them with a selected site. A method of recommending an insertion site includes receiving an indication of a site that should not be used, determining whether each of the sites is recommended using the indication, displaying the recommendations and updating the stored data based on a received user selection.

  • Publication number: 20140253323
Abstract: Described are embodiments of a system or method configured to emit an alert indicator in response to detecting an anomalous analyte event in a patient wearing a continuous analyte monitor. Absent a response from the patient to the alert indicator, the system or method escalates the alert notifications by communicating alert messages to other alarm devices or to caregivers that may be needed to assist the patient.
