  • Patent number: 11865672
Abstract: PDCs, methods of fabricating the PDCs, and methods of using the PDCs are disclosed herein. The PDCs include a PCD table bonded to a substrate. The PCD table includes an upper surface having a plurality of recessed features formed therein. The plurality of recessed features are configured to attract at least some cracks that form in the PCD table. As such, the plurality of recessed features limit or prevent crack propagation into other portions of the PCD table and limit a volume of the PCD table that spalls. Methods of fabricating the PDCs include partially leaching the PCD table and, after leaching the PCD table, forming the plurality of recessed features in the upper surface thereof. Method of using the PDCs include rotating a PDC that has spalled relative to a rotary drill bit such that a portion of the upper surface of the PDC that has not spalled forms a cutting surface thereof.

  • Publication number: 20060089157
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for providing mobile users with requested resources. In one such method, first and second location indicators for the mobile user are received, with each of the location indicators having a time associated therewith. The method includes calculating a mobile vector of the mobile user using the first and second location indicators, and associating the mobile vector with a first network region and a second network region. A first portion of the requested resource is sent to a first storage device in the first network region, and a second portion of the requested resource is sent to a second storage device in the second network region. The first and second resource portions are sent to the user when the user is in the first and second network regions, respectively.

In one such method, first and second location indicators are received for a mobile user, with each of the location indicators having a time associated therewith. The method includes calculating a mobile vector of the mobile user and associating the mobile vector with a first network region. The method further includes identifying a second mobile user in the first network region having at least a portion of the requested resource, and sending a sub-resource request to the second mobile user. The sub-resource request causes the second mobile user to send at least a portion of the requested resource to the mobile user.

  • Patent number: 5991123
Abstract: A magnetic disk drive with a head stack assembly includes a body portion, a main flex circuit, an actuator arm cantilevered from the body portion and a head gimbal assembly supported at the actuator arm. The actuator arm includes a proximal end and a distal end, a first side surface and a second side surface A first array of conductive traces is supported at the first side surface and a second array of conductive traces supported at the second side surface. Each conductive trace includes a proximal conductive pad proximate to the proximal end of the actuator arm, a distal conductive pad proximate to the distal end of the actuator arm and a conductive path between the proximal and distal conductive pads. The head gimbal assembly includes a load beam having a base region abutting the actuator arm, a head coupled to the load beam, first and a second array of base region conductive pads, each array of base region conductive pads positioned on the base region and for electrically connecting to the head.

  • Patent number: 5796554
Abstract: The invention resides in a load beam assembly forming part of a head stack assembly in a magnetic disk drive, the load beam assembly biasing a transducer head against a rotating magnetic disk. The load beam assembly normally has spring and hinge functions combined in a single "spring/hinge" portion of a load beam stamped from a stainless steel sheet. Here, however, the spring and hinge functions are uniquely separated from one another in separate spring and hinge members. The preferred load beam assembly has a base portion, a load beam, and a hinge member joining them so that the load beam pivots relative to the base portion. The load beam is further provided with a bearing surface that cooperates with a preferred spring member, one end of the spring member being fixed relative to the base portion and the other end contacting the bearing surface of the load beam.

  • Patent number: 5768061
Abstract: A head stack assembly for a disk drive includes a swing-type structure, a head gimbal assembly, and a coil. The swing-type structure has a bore defining a bore axis. The head gimbal assembly is cantilevered from the swing-type structure to project radially away from the bore axis. The head gimbal assembly includes transducing structure for writing to and reading from the recording surface of a disk. The coil is cantilevered from the swing-type structure to project radially away from the bore axis in a direction opposite from the head gimbal assembly. The coil has a shape to provide a current flow path that includes first and second multi-leg portions that are spaced from each other in a direction parallel to the bore axis.
