  • Patent number: 8194973
Abstract: A method for decoding information from a captured image is disclosed. The captured image has a plurality of color patches including a plurality of payload patches, a plurality of calibration patches, and an orientation patch. The orientation patch has a unique characteristic with respect to the payload patches and the calibration patches. The method includes identifying, within the captured image, the color patch having the unique characteristic as the orientation patch. The plurality of calibration patches are identified within the captured image. Each of the calibration patches has a unique predetermined location with respect to the identified orientation patch. A relative orientation of the image is determined based on a location of the identified orientation patch within the captured image. Calibration information is discerned according to characteristics of the identified calibration patches.
