  • Patent number: 9057886
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention pertain to a method for producing a spectacle lens with optimal correction across the entire lens that take the patient's complete measured wavefront into account. Specific embodiments also consider one or more additional factors such as vertex distance, intermediate power, add power, segmental fitting height, pantoscopic tilt, and use conditions. The lens wavefront can be achieved by optimizing a corrected wavefront, where the corrected wavefront is the effect of the patient's measured wavefront and/or the lens wavefront. The optimization of the corrected wavefront can involve representing the measured wavefront and/or the lens wavefront on a grid. In an exemplary embodiment, the grid can lie in a plane. During the optimization, a subset of the grid can be used for the representation of the measured wavefront at a point on the grid so that the portions of the measured wavefront that contribute to the corrected wavefront at that point on the grid are taken into account.

Date of Patent: June 16, 2015
Assignee: FSSILOR INTERNATIONAL (COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'OPTIQUE)
Inventors: Shawn McCarty, Jagdish M. Jethmalani
  • Publication number: 20130296452
Abstract: Monomers and polymers used in making spectacle lenses are disclosed. A thermal curing process is disclosed that includes a latent thermal cationic acid generator and optionally a cationic photoinitiator.
    Type: Application

    Publication date: November 7, 2013
Inventors: Jagdish JETHMALANI, Gomaa ABDEL-SADEK, Jeffrey CHOMYN, Erdem CETIN, Lawrence H. SVERDRUP, Shawn MCCARTY, Junhao GE
  • Patent number: 8541526
Abstract: Disclosed herein are photopolymerizable compositions and formulations that comprise photochromic dyes, photochromic blue light blocking dyes, permanent dyes, permanent blue blocking dyes, and/or their combinations. In some variations, these formulations are suited for example, for sandwiching between lens blanks to form semi-finished lens assemblies to form a tinted lens useful in sunglasses. The formulations are also suitable for correcting optical aberrations, and may provide a photochromic effect when exposed to sunlight.
