  • Patent number: 7719782
Abstract: Handling a magnetic tape cartridge comprises the steps of reading cartridge mount information from the cartridge memory; determining from the cartridge mount information whether the present mount is the first mount of the magnetic tape cartridge; and if so, fast forward and rewind the magnetic tape of the magnetic tape cartridge, e.g., the fast forward is to end of tape (EOT) and the rewind is to beginning of tape (BOT). Alternatively, if the cartridge mount information indicates the present mount is the first mount of the magnetic tape cartridge; monitoring input/output with respect to the magnetic tape cartridge for write errors during the mount; determining whether the number of monitored write errors meets a predetermined threshold; and if so, fast forward and rewind the magnetic tape of the magnetic tape cartridge.

  • Patent number: 7223431
Abstract: A method of shredding a block of material, which can be a block of cheese, includes moving blades about an axis and feeding a block of material in a feed plane toward the moving blades in a feeding direction, where the feeding direction is substantially perpendicular to the axis about which the blades move. A drive unit is provided that moves the blades about the axis, wherein the blades define a cutting perimerer, and a feed unit is provided that moves the block of material toward the cutting perimeter on a feed plane and in the feeding direction. In one embodiment, the blades are on a rotating drum and the feeding direction is generally perpendicular to and rotated about 90° from the axis about which the blades move. The plurality of blades cut shreds of material from a front face of the block.

  • Publication number: 20060196999
Abstract: A paint can support device for ladders having rungs includes a support shaft and a paint can cradle structure mounted on and depending downwards from one end of the support shaft, the paint can cradle structure having at least one side can support strut and being free of base support means for the paint can. A paint can handle engagement pin is mounted on and extends upwards from the support shaft generally adjacent the paint can cradle structure operative to releasably engage the handle of a paint can whereby the paint can depends therefrom to be cradled by the paint can cradle structure. Finally, a support shaft ladder securement device is mounted on the support shaft for releasably securing the support shaft on one of the rungs of a ladder.

  • Publication number: 20060192316
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for forming a continuous sheet of a molten material with particularly viscous, sticky properties. This molten material may be moldable, plasticized or a food product such as cheese. More specifically, the invention includes a manifold that discharges the molten material in a continuous layer upon the surface of a casting belt. This manifold comprises a roller, a chamber with a hollow interior, at least one inlet and a drive mechanism.

  • Patent number: 7085090
Abstract: A system for providing a single display for control of multiple data storage drives in an automated library incorporates a switching unit that allows the different drives to be displayed on the single display unit. The drives are mounted in a frame and connected to the display. A connection and switching mechanism and microcode are used to attach and control the drives with the display. The switching mechanism controls the drive that is currently displayed on the display unit. The operations panel and the switching mechanism fit into an existing frame without modification. When a user selects one of the drives through the operations panel, the operations panel controls the drive without having to switch physical connections.

  • Publication number: 20040194642
Abstract: An apparatus and method for shredding a block of material, the apparatus includes at least one cutting blade. A drive unit rotates the cutting blade about an axis, and a feed unit moves the block of material toward the cutting blade. The axis about which the cutting blade is rotated is generally perpendicular to the direction in which the block of material is being fed. In one embodiment, the block of material comprises a plurality of ribbons, the ribbons being stacked atop each other. In one preferred embodiment, the cutting blade comprises a serrated edge, and the distance between the teeth in the serrated edge is less than the thickness of each ribbon. In another embodiment, the shredding unit includes a plurality of blades on a rotatably driven drum.
