Abstract: An apparatus and method for receiving a stream of digital video data including at least one group of pictures containing at least two different types of pictures. The apparatus and method determine a bit rate, using the size information from a picture of a first type contained in a first subgroup within a group of pictures received, and use the determined bit rate to set at least one bit rate for a next subgroup of pictures, and convert the second type of pictures into the first type of pictures for a reverse play operation using the set bit rates.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of controlling a digital video (MPEG) player for reverse-play. The MPEG player is comprised of an I-frame buffer for storing I-pictures encoded from P-pictures by a video decoder, a B-frame buffer for storing B-pictures, and an I-frame encoder for decoding a P-picture into an I-picture. In the MPEG player, a picture group being played at present is decoded for reverse play and a previous picture group is decoded for preparation of the reverse-play. Reverse-play in soft 1-times (×1) by means of a frame memory of small capacity is achieved irrespective of the picture number and classes in picture groups.

Abstract: A stereophonic image may be enhanced by splitting the left and right input audio signals into a plurality of left and right output signals in a plurality of audio frequency bands and then generating left and right output audio signals from the left and right output signals based on the magnitude of the differences between corresponding left and right output signals and also based upon the absolute magnitude of the left and right input audio signals themselves. In particular, a stereophonic image enhancement device according to the invention processes a left input signal and a right input signal using a first spectrum analyzer and a second spectrum analyzer which output a plurality of left output signals and right output signals corresponding to a plurality of frequency bands in response to the corresponding left input signal and right input signal.
