  • Patent number: 9511835
Abstract: Wingsail. The wingsail includes a substantially rigid airfoil section having a leading and a trailing edge and a flap is attached to the trailing edge through a torsion fitting having a torsional stiffness along the span of the rigid airfoil section selected to control flap deflection with respect to the rigid airfoil section under aerodynamic loading to control rolling moment of the wingsail.

  • Publication number: 20150023789
Abstract: Wind power generator. The generator includes a wind turbine rotating in an aerodynamically contoured duct and capable of generating increased power by increasing the wind flow at the turbine. A wind turbine is located at the entrance to a diverging duct. The duct expands in the wind direction following the wind turbine section, increasing the flow. A porous disk is located at the trailing edge of the aerodynamically contoured duct and this disk reduces die pressure at the trailing edge of the duct thereby sharply accelerating the flow through the duct and increasing die power output of die wind turbine. The porosity of the disk can be geometrically modified such dial the flow field changes to respond to changing wind conditions.

  • Patent number: 5181678
Abstract: A flexible airfoil section for a wing or a blade comprising a streamlined shape and an elastic structure whose stiffness distribution along its chord and span is tailored to provide a desirable cambered shape with proportional increases in camber with increases in lift, mounted to a supporting structure such that the airfoil sections are free to pivot about axes near their leading and trailing edges. In operation, the foil derives much of its lift from elastic bending deformation of its flexible shape, thereby achieving a higher lift than a symmetric foil at the same angle of attack while postponing the onset of flow separation and stall and, for operation in water, of ventilation and cavitation.

  • Patent number: 4264290
Abstract: A device having at least one, preferably a plurality of air turning foils situated upstream of and at the level of the region between a fiber distributor and an underlying moving forming surface. Terminal edge portions of the foils direct ambient air in the direction of forming surface movement to impart to fibers in transit between the distributor and forming wire a uniform velocity component of movement in said direction. Each foil preferably is convex from upstream of the foil when viewed in cross section, is parallel to and equidistant from the other, and has its terminal edge portion parallel to the forming surface.
